So I have this 05 LE. It is 100 degrees outside and I am going down the fwy at 85mph with the AC on. Cars in front of me are way ahead. I suddenly hear a blast and have an area of cracked/smashed front windshield that is larger than a baseball. I recall seeing a tiny air bubble in the same area when washing the car. I am pretty sure that no stones etc hit the glass.
So question is, has anybody else had this happen.
Any good referrals for windshield replacement in South CA. The dealer parts only is $1255 + $69 for the trim. Even they told me to go outside as their price is crazy. On the other hand I don't want shitty work. My insurance deductible is high so can't get help there.

Sorry to hear you had that happen, after that much time it would be impossible to know if it is a defect. But after manufacture I am sure they check them very carefully, all the liability suits on defective windshields after all. I am sure you have chain shops in your area that work for insurance company's. These sort's of places do high volume and imagine could do good work at a reasonable price. Call your insurance company and get them to recommend a place. They will know who will give the best bang for the buck RE: Price vs quality. Your experience is exactly why I just anti up on the insurance, one never knows when. But it will come

I have family living near Toronto and have heard the story's of how expensive insurance is there. I live down the road in Montreal and I have glass insurance with a $50.00 deductible. Better yet the glass replacement places swallow the deductible so It cost me nothing, well nothing but the extra cost on my policy. Which is $20 a year. Insurance on a 2010 SE is costing me a total of $610 with a a 2 million liability and general $500 deductible (except glass), $100 deductible would of cost me $150 extra a year . An it is fully covered. Even full replacement if stolen within 2 years.
Wonder how that compares to Toronto?
I did have family living in Edmonton and that place you could never afford glass insurance. They use stones on the road in winter for grip. Is to cold for salt. Everyone has cracked windshields.
Happy driving
