Gen6 07 XLE Rear bumper rattle

Anyone else having this issue? When I close my driver's door or driver-side rear door, the rear bumper cover rattles, same thing over some bumps that I notice when the window is down. This doesn't happen on the passenger side.

Ideas on how to tighten it up?

Does it wiggle when you touch it? And rattle when you hit it with your hand? Try to pin-point the rattling spot, it might be some loose tools in your trunk?

It's pretty solid when I touch it, but if I bump it with my palm it rattles. I checked to see if it was anything in the trunk, but there wasn't anything unusual that hadn't been there since I bought it in 07. Just my emergency kit (water, jumpers, etc) sits in the tray there.

I've noticed that the pin in the wheel well holding the fascia (the carpet-y textured material cover in the well) seems lose as well. I'm going to do some exploring this morning under it to see what I find. Any other ideas in the meantime?

Check the jack inside the trunk and check the spare tire hold-down.

A second set of ears would help. Get someone at the back of the car to listen and put hands-on until you locate the problem.

I think we got it.

My dad and I got underneath it this afternoon and we found that there is a vent behind the bumper fascia/rear quarter panel. I didn't know it was there, but he told me that vehicles commonly had this for flow through when the windows are open. The rubber flap that covers it is what is making the sound as it floats out and back from closing the door. I don't know why I never noticed it before.

Thanks for the insights, all!

Maybe you have a bad left side flapper (the right side is quiet). Talk to you service writer during the next oil change. Maybe they'll swap it out with a good one under warranty.
