02 Camry V6 auto, Im having a random no crank issue. This has happened twice now, the first time i hoped it was just a one time fluke... Heres what happens, car works fine the previously... I go to start it, no crank. There is absolutely no sound at all from the starter. When i crank i here what i think is the starter relay (said ST on the diagram) click, and the fuel pump turns on at the same time, when i pull the relay out and the key is in the on position, the fuel pump runs constantly... the car just wont crank at all, like there is no power to the starter. I can just walk away, come back in a half hour or so, and it starts right up like nothing ever happened, full crank power. any ideas? thanks

what do you mean starter contacts? just the contact points where the cable bolts to the starter or inside of it? and if they are bad, can the be cleaned or just need replaced (the contacts or the whole starter?)
If the idiot lights on the dash dim out siignificantly, then the battery is likely at fault. Clean terminals or replace battery. If the lights do not dim, then the starter is likely at fault. Yes, give it a wack or consider replacing it. Always a chance the ignition switch is going bad. Pull the key out and put back in and try turning again.

This is how the starter on the gen 3.5 started failing. Turn key - nothing. Turn key again - starts up like nothing. Eventually it started happening more often so the starter was replaced. No problems since.

just a final word, i ended up replacing the entire starter assembly, $89 pricematch at kragen, with an autolite remanufactured denso starter, lifetime warranty with 24 months roadside coverage. we'll see how long it lasts!
i have same issue, on my 97 camry. at first it happens 1 to 2 times every 2 weeks until it does everyday when the car sit 4 hours or more. what i did is i depress the gas alittle bit to bring the rpm to 2000. hold until the idle stays steady. its been going on ever since i bought my camry new. i complain to the dealer but all they say is they cant duplicate the problem until the warranty is up. the problem is the idle control valve. they have to clean and replace it. on my car i have to replace it every 2 to 2 1/2 years. other than that i still love my 97 camry. i bought a 2009 toyota camry se I4 and plan to keep my 97 camry.

I think you replied to the wrong thread? how is this related to the starter?
