Does the nav unit have to use the DVD? - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I just bought a Gen 6 Camry nav unit for my 09 Camry. I've never used this unit before. I haven't received the GPS DVD yet, so the other day when I went to try the unit on, it wouldn't change from the "Insert DVD" screen. Can someone confirm that the unit MUST have the DVD to allow you to get passed this screen? I'd like to check the rest of the menues while I wait for the map DVD, but I have a feeling that I'm going to need to wait, is this right?
