Gen5 Shift lever does not shift to "L"

I just noticed that I am unable to shift the shift lever to the "L" gear on my 05 Camry. It feels like something is in the way while trying to select it. All other gears have no problems and the car seems to run fine. Any ideas? Also, would it be difficult to open the shift assembly? Just wondering if something got in the way. Thanks.

just to make sure, you do know that you have to move it right to shift to L, right?

yea, the "L" is on the right after the "2". When I shift to the right from the "2", it wouldn't. It feels like something is blocking it. I didn't want to force it thinking I might break something inside.

it does take a decent amount of force to shift it to L, so it may feel like its breaking or something is blocking it. try a little more force... i think its very unlikely something got down in there.

Getting it into L at first seems like it'll break it, but once it is done 2-3 times it goes in there normally.

Thanks all for the help. Gave it a decent amount of force and it did shift to L. I guess this was the first time I ever tried that gear since it really did feel like it was going to break. However, it's been shifting to that gear with ease even though I probably won't be using that gear on my normal drive. Just the feeling of relief that nothing is wrong with the car is good. Thanks again!
