Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, I bought a Camry SE 09 back in March with the nitrogen filled tires. The tire pressure light is going on so I want to check them and fill them up with my air pump but I can't do it right? Do I have to take it into a dealer to fill it?
what do you think the air we breathe has a percentage of? nitrogen. you should be fine with filling your tires with the air pump. though you could take it into the dealer if you want, but it'll probably cost an arm and a leg when you could fill your tires for free.

The reason for using nitrogen in tires is b/c nitrogen is a dry gas (no moisture) therefore tirepressure should stay the same when the temperature outside varies. It's also supposed to give you better gas miliage b/c your pressures won't vary.
I used to work at a tire shop.
The Oxygen You Breathe Is 78% Nitrogen. The Machines That Put Nitrogen In You Car Guarantees 81% Nitrogen. Do Not Pay For Nitrogen. Just Put Oxygen In Your Tires And Drive On.

Any tire shop or service station worth their salt will have a moisture removal as part of their air inflation system. Easy enough for the layman to check (besides asking) just lay on the air and if it has no recovery system it'll spit water.

No, the air you breathe is 78% nitrogen................
I think it's worthless unless you're able to purge all the normal air out with pure nitrogen even before you begin to fill to your preferred pressure. Then there's the issue of cost for this service as well as the increased cost of the occasional "topping-off".
As previously stated, just having the moisture/vapor removal on the compressor is enough.
Thanks for the replies guys. After reading your responses and a few other sources it makes sense just to put in air. It's what I did. Just used my air pump.
Odd thing is, all tires were good except for the rear left. That one was down about 4-5 pounds. I'll monitor it and hopefully there's not a leak.
