2004 Camry XLE owners info needed

On the 2004 Camry XLE is auto on headlights a standard feature? I just got one and the manual explains the automatic light control system. Trouble is i wrote Toyota and they told me the auto on headlights was not offered on any camry model. It was explained to me the dash sensor is for the DRL. I see no reason they would BS me but looking on line i found that on the 2004 XLE model auto on headlights was a standard option. Also DRL in my thinking would not need a sencor since they would be on al the time reguardless if it is day or night. The manual explains that this sensor is for the auto on control ....What gives? Does anyone have a 2004 camry with lights that come on when the lighting conditions call for it.

I forgot to mention my 04 camry XLE does not have auto on, but the sensor is there.

I did post something similar but i thought different enough to start a different thread. My first thread assumed it was an option and i wanted to know how, if it was possible, to easily install the auto on option. I did post that thread a bit prematurely as my research found auto on was standard. Sorry if i broke any rules i thought i was doing the right thing since i changed what i was looking for.

Thanks Sam,

It seem silly to carry this auto on head lamps thing so far but the answers i was getting from Toyota seemed like BS. As it is they confired what already know.
What would make my day is someone with a 04 camry that has automatic lights.
BTW i'm courious does your camry have the light sensor?

Bobby

Same here I have a 03 Camry XLE with sensor but no auto headlight feature. But mine had a salvage title that the local mechanic rebuilt so who knows.

What's on your headlight stalk? I was under the impression auto lights were not available until 2005 on the gen 5. My Camry has "OFF | AUTO | PARKING LIGHTS | HEADLIGHTS" - I think my coworker's 2002 LE has "DRL OFF | DRL | PARKING LIGHTS | HEADLIGHTS" if I'm not mistaken. Haven't seen the car in a while so I hope I got that right.

(This is for the US BTW, Canada might have been slightly different)

Toyota did tell me that the automatic headlights where not offered on any Camry in 2004 so i would think you are right. What caused the confusion was the manual that came with the car had instructions how to use this option. (auto on headlights)

To answer your question the stalk controls have DRL/parking light/ headlights all with auto off.

Toyota also told me there is no kit available to convert to auto on.

I find it amazing that a high end car as the XLE Camry did not come with auto on headlights. My daughter has a entry level Malibu 2004 and it is a standard feature.

Thanks to everyone who responded

I hardly use the auto to be honest. I want my headlight on or parking light. And of course when I get out of the car all of those lights turn off... so it's alright, never leave the headlight on to kill the battery.

Personally i think the auto on feature is a nice feature and would pay to have it.

What i do not understand why my manual, that has 2004 Camry printed on it, have the "auto on" feature explained if it was not offered in 2004. Toyota never did explain that to my liking.
