will this work? or just a knockoff

Is this really plug and play? or just some cheap knockoff? it has a boot around the whole bulb, think it would reduce the glare?

That puts out way more light than the optics were ever designed to handle so it won't do anything good.

Additionally, on a 9006 bulb, the filament is in a different location than that gas tube so the origin of light is different than what the optics were designed for. So by moving the light source you also change the output of the lamp because the reflectors are designed to reflect light originating from a certain position. Moving the light source a few mm can drastically change the light output.

those are just regular HID
w/ ignitor/ballast on the back of the bulb.
possible fitment issues.
the space is tight behind the headlight housing.
too much $$$

I agree, these days you can get a kit for a lot cheaper

Other kits are waterproof, too... so no need to worry

you can do a conversion just get some bulbs with a shield on them or do a retrofit. these will really glare.

That's a cool design, but it seems like the ballast could block your ability to access the other bulbs on your headlight assembly. I don't know how the reflector housings of the Gen5s compare to the projectors on the Gen6s...

Things to consider:

-Heat - too hot and it can melt the housing. Cost you more than it'll be worth.
-Power - melt the cable or damage other stuff. I prefer the one draw power directly from battery.
-Life - U'll need to replace it more often. If I were to stick with OEM it would last for years. But I play with HID and I had to replace about 3 sets of bulbs and 2 set of kit.

if you really want to drop in a kit then just make it a modexpress 4300K kit but it will glare.

That does look pretty cool but I agree with the others: heat will be an issue when you have the ballast plastered on the back of the bulb (which by itself already creates lots of heat).

I recommend installing a "normal" conversion kit with a separate wiring harness and also make sure to perform the squirrel spotter mod (search for it on the forum for an explanation).

They have shortened bulbs for HID kits now so that you don't need to worry about focal lengths, hence not have to worry about glare

Haven't done a squirrel spotter mod for my 6.5 gen lens... no flashes yet

well no flashes because actually the squirrel finder is not that bad on the gen 6 and 6.5 my friend has a kit in his and it's really ok. i drove behind him etc.. kind of makes me wish i didn't spend that much on a retro. BUT when i get in my car and put on my retro i smile and remember why i got it. no way a kit will be as wide, give out as much color, or distribute the light as good as my retro.

shortened hid bulbs? any pics comparing to a normal hid bulb? i know a retro fit is a must, but i wanna try it out to see how bad it is. shortened hid bulbs sounds like it might work.

EDIT: i know alot of people will recomend HIR bulbs, ive looked everywhere and this HIR bulbs has been discontinued, any idea where to buy them now? they dont even have them on ebay.
