Gen6 T-SB-0327-08 October 24, 2008 Rattle Noise from Exhaust Center Pipe

Some 2007 – 2009 model year NAP-built Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine may exhibit a rattle noise from the exhaust center pipe when accelerating. An improved exhaust center pipe has been developed and implemented in production to address this condition. Use the following
repair procedure to diagnose and repair customer complaint vehicles.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced
BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

MODEL ENGINE PLANT PRODUCTION CHANGE EFFECTIVE VIN

TMMK Line 1 4T1BE46K*9U346984
TMMK Line 2 4T1BE46K*9U868442
SIA 4T4BE46K*9R095701

1. Test drive the vehicle and verify that there is an abnormal rattle noise heard while accelerating.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist with the engine running.
3. Increase the engine speed and listen to the resonator section of the exhaust center pipe with astethoscope for a rattle noise.
4. Did the noise appear to be the loudest at the resonator section of the exhaust center pipe?

• YES — Replace the exhaust center pipe.
Test drive the vehicle after repair to confirm the rattle noise has been addressed.

• NO — This service bulletin does NOT apply. Proceed with additional diagnosis of the rattle concern.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
