5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm new to this forum, wife and I just bought a 2010 Camry SE V6 in the blue ribbon color with black leather and navi yesterday. We are both car people and everything we get gets fixed up. We do trade often but hopefully we'll keep this one for awhile but what we trade In usually ends up on the showroom floor or sold by the next day. We traded in our 2008 red Altima Coupe 3.5se that was fully loaded with a lot of mods mostly all from Stillen. We used to be a happy Honda family as I also used to help run a Honda speed shop when I was younger before the Fast and Furious ruined a lot of the fun and prices. Wife grew up with parent owning nothing but Accords. Then we have had CRX, few civic coupes. Then we went to Toyota with 2 Scion TCs, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander due to brother-in-law's plant discount. We then went to Nissans since I used to own a Maxima and liked it so we picked up a black on black leather Murano SL (currently still have) then the Altima coupe. Have to say I hate Nissan's paint and they're customer service is crappy. So we are coming back to Toyota hopefully stick with them especially with the plant deals. Like to trade the Murano in on a Venza but need to pay on the Murano more.
I'm a forum junkie I love getting as much knowledge and info I can from forums. I don't post a whole lot but do like to help someone with problems or questions if I know the 100% correct answer.
Wife just took the Camry to get the windows tinted 15% all around then 5% 10" down the windshield I can't wait to see it. We had a bandpass box with 2 12" surrounded in mirrors and blue light that was in the FJ that I will probably through in the Camry this weekend along with debadging it. We plan on lowering it, rims 17"18"or 19" maybe in black and silver, intake, exhaust, full LED conversion, HIDs (thought it had them until drove it at night after we bought it) headlights plus fog, and eventually I will build a custom box that will maximize trunk space. That our thoughts for now may take a carbon fiber route but not for now (like to see pics of carbon fiber interior). So I'm going to shut up now and go wear out the serch button.
Here are some old pics from photobucket which I haven't used since I left the Scion forum. I will take some of the Camry tomorrow. Murano before mods Altima with just rims at the time custom box I made for the TC Altima intake FJ the day we traded it in
Well the Camry doesn't even have a 100 miles on it so we are still breaking it in and my wife mostly drives it. I do feel that the Camry pulls off the line harder (torquer) than the Altima but that probably is due to the transmision since the Camry has a first gear and the Altima has the CVT Trannny (belt driven tapered cylinders, never shifts). I did test drive a Camry and got on it a little with shifting the gears and was disappointed in the delay in between the shifts the Altima was super quick with the shifts when shifting the gears. Both cars are rated at 268hp and 0-60 at 6.2, with the weight to power ratio very close to the same, can't remember the torque numbers. The Camry does run a lower profile tire so I shouldn't feel the give in the tires like I did in the Altima stock tires. I can't give a very fair comparison either because the Altima was modified with Injen intake, Stillen full exhuast, raceline strut tower bar and end links, Eibach springs, and Stillen sway bar with the allignment and camber dialed in correctly. The steering in the Camry has felt a little artificial on two different occasions. The Altima had no trunk or back seat which was one of the reasons we traded. It is so nice to have a back seat and a trunk I know the kids love it. Wish I had gotten the smart key option on the Camry cause I all ready miss that.
I always feel the Camry is a bit huge and heavy. And I agree with u on the lag but if u punch the Camry to above 80mph, it feels different... much better, more responsive somehow and the V6 really flex it's power. Below that speed the car seems to make more noise than really move.
The two times that I enjoy the Camry the most was when I first got it (drove slowly home enjoying the smooth ride) and another time was my last time driving it (on the way to Carmax).
Anyway, I really love my new used car and that's all I'll say until the TN meet next year.
the lag on my xle has pretty much gone away but i drove it hard a few times to do that. if you want the camry to be powerful then give it some even while its new. everyone that drove my camry says that it feels like mine goes a bit better than theirs. i know what you mean about the smart key. i lost mine for 2 weeks and couldn't wait to get it back. i think you could have gotten it but i know u would have to had it special ordered then.
its the push buttons start and sensors on the door. you leave your remote in your pocket and can open your car, turn it on, open trunk etc... without taking it out.
