I just purchased my lowering springs and I was telling a friend that i am going to install them next weekend. But he said that I might want to buy new shocks and might need some new struts, bolts, etc. He started naming all these parts that would just add up to extra $. My car has 114K miles on it so he says a lot of the parts might be rusted and etc.
So my question is to the ppl that have installed springs on their camrys. Did you guys buy any extra parts prior to installing, or did anybody run into any problems while installing. I just want to know what i should have before installing my springs as a precaution. Thanks to all the ppls with some input.

mehhh....get new struts if you want to... does your car ride bad or bouncy? or make noises going over bumps? if not, there is no point in buying struts unless you want to, if it ain't broke don't fix it..though i'm sure lexota up there will have a smart remark in response to it.... many cars live their entire lives on the oem struts...
i had my springs installed at like 100k..and ran into no problems..
What kind of roads do you drive on? If you drive on bad roads (like here in Cali or in some places in the Northeast) you may as well swap them out while you have the car apart. 114K miles on bad roads should show a lot of wear. If you're on good roads you may still be alright. Then again newer cars may have different intervals with suspension parts. Oil used to be 3000 miles...now it is 5000+ miles.
At 114K, I would replace them with new struts, if your budget allowed, at 114K it deserved a new set of struts, just my point of view, or you can slam those spring in them and wait til they shock, or like "scamry" said, "if it ain't broke don't fix it." I do that sometime, but I would suggest you to be prepare that they can get shock at anytime now, once you put those springs in now they really, and at different ride high more thing may come, but it won't hurt to re-use the old struts, if your budget is tight. Since you going to take them apart you can take this opportunity to replace them too, if you can afford to.
I installed the Eibach myself last month, took me 6hrs, save $500+ in labor, now that money is going toward my IS wheels comming next week.
TT,

Definitely get struts. If you don't get them now, the increased spring rates on the lowering springs can add additional stress to the struts, which'll make them go out sooner anyways.
And you save labor by doing it all together.
Just be careful with the sway bar end links, to not rip them or strip them. But if the boot is ripped already, then just get a new set. Other then that, you shouldn't need anything else.
Just be sure to get an alignment afterwords, happy modding!

Thanks for all the input guys. At the time im just gonna have to wait on the new struts. Just paid a 33 over the speed limit ticket so my budget is pretty tight. But once im over this lil phase of mine, i'll def buy new struts and install. Only 400 for all 4 so i should do it soon. It wont take much time, i just really want to lower my car, tire of seeing the gap everyday. lol
