Just bought an 06 Camry but concerned after reading this forum
Hi,
Just bought a 2006 Camry 29K miles--Toyota Certified. 4 Cylinder
I felt good until reading this forum. My concerns are:
1) Loose Engine Head Bolts, which most times results in needing a new engine
2) Throttle Body going bad just after 30K miles? Cost $1000 just for the part. Would a good cleaning extend the life of it or is their something fundamentally wrong with them?
3) Engine Sludge
4) Excessive oil consumption. My Toyo manual says it is within specs to use 1.1 Quarts of oil every 650 miles. We all know that is a bunch of bull.
5) Window Actuators. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but these things are expensive!
Have I been reading too much online about potential problems or have I got myself a big costly mess ahead of me? Thanks!
The most problematic kind of Camry is the Gen6 which is 2007-2009. So don't worry. The Gen5 and Gen5.5 Camry don't have nearly as many problems relatively speaking.

I have an 06 Camry with a four banger with about a mileage range of about 30K. While it was still under warranty the Check Engine light came on and I took it in and they told me there was no problem and reset it. Since then, I purchased a reader and it just came back on. Of course now I am out of the warranty stage. The code was P2195 O2 Sensor stuck lean, bank 1, sensor 1. Do you have any suggestions? I searched the site with little success. Seafoam treatment? Or, just bite the bullet and buy a new O2 sensor? Can anyone suggest any thing? Actually, I'm lucky. It's the first of 5 Toyota's that I ever had any problems with.
If the emissions warranty is still in effect just get the dealer to replace it free?
Does NJ use Calif emissions? NY and MA do. So PZEV should have 15-year/150K mile emissions warranty?

My own 2007 car has been in the dealer over 20 times, not to mention my complete transmission failure last year. Any noob to the forums is damn right to be concerned with "known" or "frequent" issues because they really do exist.

Reason: Edited out usless info.
I have been and the rest of us Staffer's have been telling everyone, but no one frickin' listens and just enjoys complaining about him.
He has never broken any rules, and has never personally insulted or been negative towards me, probably because i respect him...if you give respect you get it back...it works both ways...
Now that we're back on topic i forgot to mention that mine is not JP built and the only thing that i had to do was get the hesitation TSB and the problem went away. The only problem that still stands is the dash squeaking in cold weather. Other then that "knock on wood" the car has been fine.
As someone mentioned before, the 5/5.5 have a lower cost of ownership than gen 6's. Most of the 'problems' that people face is caused more from forum paranoia, than the vehicle itself.
If I told you your engine would blow up in 500 mi, wouldn't you pay attention to every noise? Exactly..
