Stereo swap on 2007 from stock single disc to OEM JBL 6 Disc
I tried the search feature to see what exactly is involved if I remove my stock 2007 single disc stereo and replace it with a stock JBL 6 disc stereo. I didn't seem to find what I was looking for (other than a fair bit of feedback that the Bluetooth isn't the greatest) - hence this thread.
Essentially I'm looking to add the Bluetooth feature as new laws are coming into effect soon in Ontario making it illegal to drive while talking on your cell.
I looked at some wireless Bluetooth products like Blueant to work with my 8830 Blackberry - but thought for what the stock JBL's are selling for on Ebay, I might as well get something built in as it wouldn't be all that much more and I'm thinking the quality should be better.
Anything help or comments on things I should be thinking of or avoiding would be great. I'm assuming I should get a 2007 model (the one I'm looking at has a manufacture date of October 2007) - as some threads seem to imply that putting a 2009 stereo into a 2007 didn't have all the wires (but I think they were going from a non JBL to a NAV system so I don't think it would be applicable in my case).
If anyone has any idea what a car audio shop or dealer would charge to do this, that would be great too.
You cannot swap the stereo because the JBL setup is completely different. The JBL unit has an amp hidden under the seat, in the dash or elsewhere. On top of that, you'll have to run new speaker wiring even if you are to keep your current speakers. I don't know where the BT micrphone is located, but you'd have to run wires for that too. Not to mention the steering wheel buttons.
If you want to swap the radio for something with BT, it will be easier for you to get an aftermarket product.

if i may ask since we are talking about JBL, do gen5 JBL premum speaker harness, wiring and male/female sockets fit the gen 6 navi w/ JBL sound?
I saw a good deal but didn;t wanna jump on it yet. gen 5 6 piece speakers 4 6x9 and 2 tweeters with all the wiring harness etc for 120 and a JBL gen 6 OEM navi for 250....
can anyone of you smart folks confirm this?

Well that blows - thanks for the advice guys. Much appreciated.
Maybe I'll just get the Motorokr t505 - that seems to be a low cost decent wireless unit that should accomplish what I'm after - without all the headaches.

If you don't have JBL system, you don't have the wiring in place to use any of the JBL equpment.
Just to add a comment on the JBL/bluetooth. I have an 09 SE I4 with this system and the bluetooth is almost worthless over 45 mph. The sound to the car is great, but the outgoing is mostly road noise. People I talk to would rather me be on my speaker on the phone. I've heard others say it works great, I saw a thread about replacing the mic, and I changed the mic volume (instructions found on a thread here) and I've given up on it unless I am in town driving slow. Maybe I'm sensitive to it, but it's difficult to talk with others (especially if they are also on a bluetooth) and I notice that the calls end Much quicker when I use it compared to when I use my wired headset in the car. Could be just me (or the people I talk with are intolerant to any ambient noise) as when I see someone on a phone with the window down, I just can't fathom how they can actually have a conversation like that.
I have driven my car on the highway and talked to my fiancee via bluetooth and no problem. However, this is with windows up. With windows down, obviously you'll get the wind noise. But no complaints about road noise affecting the bluetooth.
Just get bluetooth headset and leave it in the car. You can even use it when you get out of the car and walking around.
Damn that sucks!! I was thinking of changing my single disk cd in my '10 Camry LE to 6-disk JBL, but i guess it wont work... damn!!! How much would it cost to get all the JBL harnesses? I don't really want the Bluetooth anyways so i don't have to worry about that. But i read in these forums that you have to change speaker wire to all speakers? Why is that? I've done numerous speaker installs and i've never installed new wires (it never affected sound quality for me)..
