Bought used 2007 Camry, need to teach it

I just bought a 2007 LE with 51k mi on it to go with my 2001 CE with 136k.

I dont seem to have any major problems, I just want the car to be mine.

I figured how to remove the previous owner's phonebook and speed dial entries on the bluetooth, and how to reprogram the radio.

I hear that the car is supposed to adapt to your driving style. If this is the case, i think it is still adapted to the previous owner's style.

When i barely push on the gas, the car seems to surge a bit. I'm not talking about spinning the tires or anything, but a noticable "oops i pressed the gas a wee bit too hard" sensation. I take pride in being able to accelerate without giving people whiplash. I like to drive as smooth as possible to save gas and keep high levels of comfort. However, the "surge" on the initial press of the gas, and the extra engine braking when i take my foot off the gas is making it difficult.

Will re teaching the car my driving habits help?

On my other camry, the 2 sonatas i rented this week, the impala i rented last last week, the camry and the pontiac the week before, the charger and chrysler 300 the week before i never noticed these issues. the acceleration is smooth (get the idea i drive a few different cars? )

I gather pulling the neg cable for approx 5 min will reset something, but not certain whether or not this is all i need to do to be able to teach my car. Also, will doing this require my car to re-learn my factory key fobs for remote entry?

thanks in advance

(btw i searched for a few days without a definitive answer before i asked)

Your two "problems", accelerator and engine braking will not be changed by pulling the power.

No, your fobs won't be affected.

You will have to reset the clock and your radio presets though.

@ OP - You don't need to take the battery out/ reset the ECU for your car to adapt to you. Just drive it.. if you have a V6 thats just normal or you may just have a heavy right foot. or since your driving american cars that don't really *pull as you say. drive it some more..

ohh and congrats on your purchase!...

just keep driving or you can try pulling the negative. best was is if dealer resets the ecu or updates it. but you need to bring in for a tsb for that to happen.

Assuming you have an I4 which you didn't state - The hesitation TSB EG036-07 would apply to your vehicle but it may have been applied all ready.

Check for a sticker under the hood but not all/many dealers put them on as they are instructed by Toyota.

The only sure way to tell is to have the dealer hook up with their Intellligent tester and check the ECU. The problem is if it is all ready applied they may charge you $50-100 for wasting their time.

Search for the TSB....

Yes, $90 - $100 just to check, that's 2 different dealers in my area.

Yes it is an I4 LE.

its a gold/beige/tan/desert sand whatever color you want to call it.

I just had leather installed. Came with moon roof, alloy wheels, 6 disc JBL (installing xm as soon as it arrives) bluetooth (coolest accy so far)

I will check out the hesitation TSB

unlike most males my age, i tend to drive like grandma. I dont know if the previous owner had a heavy foot or not, and since I dont really know what the car "learns" from driving it, i didnt know if resetting would help.
