5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys, I have been receiving alot of complaints from Mods and users alike recently about this forum. I just would like some honest opinions here:
What can we do to make this forum better?Less noobs, a little more knowledge. Many people seem like they want to be mods and act like the forum police. Some members feel that they must post in every thread, and be the most awesome forum members. My main problem with the forum is that some members think they are awesome, post wrong info, and turn TN into a crappy myspace-like place. These reasons are why many of the better, long-time members don't post anymore. Having 8000+ posts does not make you a winner.[/
Are the Mods too harsh?Yes. There is no consistency with the mods, some say stuff is ok, some say otherwise. Some(1 in specific) choose to make others follow the rules while doing whatever they please.
Are the Admins too harsh (answer wisely, lol)? I don't see any huge problem with the admins, just the same consistency problem.
Should the Camry Show and Share be integrated back into the regular forum? Yes,especially since some pic threads get moved by some mods and others don't.
Should we allow sale threads in general forums (Gen 5+6 Camry for example)?
Feeler threads would be good, or selling gen5-6 specific items. I thought that was allowed anyway, but some mods don't agree. EDIT: on second thought, I take back this statement. the classified section is fine.
Are we too hard on new users?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Some of the new users super suck.
PS. I may add more later..
Thanks for helping out!
Dana

Reason: because i wanted to
I agree with everything Scamry said. And i will admit that lately i have been a little harsh on some new members starting repeating threads, but i have tried to help them and not just flame them like some do. I'm not here to argue with anyone. I'm here to learn and help/give opinion whenever i can.
I havn't been around long enough to have an opinion or to get a feel for it. However I've been on a lot of forums at least 1 for each car I've owned if not 4+ and I have to say that the scionlife forum has been the best I've seen so far. So you might want to go poke around there for ideas if it will help any

Doing things like this survey is a good start.
Are the Mods too harsh? Yes, they are too quick to close on a lot of threads especially on new users.
Are the Admins too harsh (answer wisely, lol)?
No, you're cool.
Should the Camry Show and Share be integrated back into the regular forum?
Yes, definitely a big yes. I didn't like it all when we separate them because I had to going back and forth to view the threads. I missed a lot of threads because of that.
Should we allow sale threads in general forums (Gen 5+6 Camry for example)? No, they can have a link to the sale threads in their sig.
Are we too hard on new users?
Yes, we should at least give new users a 3 strikes you're out. Most of the time they're out at 1 strike.
ps. I love the new smilies

Are the Mods too harsh?
i would not say harsh but they feel like they're Gods in silly forum ARROGANT and often MISLEADING. ... again INTERNET VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS. no consistency, that's why i've been cracking them down *not flaming in this forum.
i think MODs should have different specialties.. like PEACH knows alot about almost anything and doesn't give false advice.. i say put Netforcer and Lammydi as MODS! and also MOKY but he is rarely in this forum.
Are the Admins too harsh (answer wisely, lol)?
not at all lol and *LOL at the answer wisely.
Should the Camry Show and Share be integrated back into the regular forum?
yes... coz the mods have individual threads anyhow... It's funny how they justify their wrong doings.. so sad..
Should we allow sale threads in general forums (Gen 5+6 Camry for example)?
put them on top as a sticky... for gen 5 and 6 only... and may sub topics.. like wheels and tires/ car parts acc./ engine modifications/ aftermarket performance parts..
Are we too hard on new users?
GODS aka MODs, and the people trying to be mods... i'd say if a newbie's starts a thread. welcome him and point him to the right direction such as links.. then completely delete his post after 5 days... who will notice?
Thanks for helping out!
your welcome.. and btw i like the facepal drives them people nuts lo

PS TO DANA...
how about evaluating the *OFFICIAL THREADS for example
Official Air intake/ aftermarket air-filter thread
Wheels and tires thread.. gen 5 separate to gen 6... then set by preference.. VIP? RICE? DUB? EXE? OEM?
SUSPENSION THREAD...
EXterior and INterior Lighting.. *DCEMReviews did a good job on taking Netforcers thread and putting it up in his name...
Accessories thread.
and much much more.. TN could be a better place... i know we have a lot of visitors each day.. i see the stats and i know those newbies are just afraid to post because of the MODs and the wannabies.

1) General
2) Engine/Performance
3) Interior/Exterior
4) Sound/Audio
5) Rims/Tires
2) and 3) can be integrated into one sub-forum
And the sub-forums should be for all Generation models
This will reduce clutter in the general section, and new members will be able to post in appropriate sections (hopefully search first).
Honestly... Not all new members will read all the stickies before they create a new thread... I mean look at all the stickies we have... They take up half of my screen and I wouldn't read (haven't read) all of them if I were new.
I think the mods are doing great... They're human too so you can't expect them to be uber nice and be at your service 24/7.
What can we do to make this forum better? There are a lot of ego's in here and people butt heads all the time. I would love to change this but that is the nature of society
Are the Mods too harsh? I agree with the inconsistency. You can't be a hardass on one rule but a pushover on another. Maybe we need to designate to mods what they should patrol for. ie: one mod takes care of all the bickering, another mod takes care of multi-posting, etc.
Are the Admins too harsh (answer wisely, lol)? I have had nothing but good experiences with the admins, especially you Dana. You were super helpful when I needed to get in contact with the website owner/designer for the TN logo.
Should the Camry Show and Share be integrated back into the regular forum? I like it separated. As long as the show and share section stays just that. I know sometimes I am in the mood just to browse peoples rides and the S&S section does the trick.
Should we allow sale threads in general forums (Gen 5+6 Camry for example)? I think as long as its gen 5/5.5/6/6.5 specific, a feeler thread should be allowed for a day or two, and then moved to the FS section.
Are we too hard on new users? Some members here are too hard on new users. If a new user asks a repeated question, I like to give a small tidbit of info about it, then direct them to the search button while explaining that there is a lot of info already posted. We all were new to cars at one point or another. Some people arent as savvy as others at finding information. Give people a chance.

I have seen a lot of forums with this type of sub-forum set-up, and to be honest I really don't like it.. Newbies will still post in the wrong section, and it makes it harder to search because there are more sections. Not knocking you personally, just my opinion.

I have to agree with this. There is alot of posts in some very good threads that go way to Off-Topic.
Are the Mods too harsh?Yes. There is no consistency with the mods, some say stuff is ok, some say otherwise. Some(1 in specific) choose to make others follow the rules while doing whatever they please.
I have received numerous complaints about this. We have three Mods in this section alone and it is tough sometimes to get on the same page. Some people look at rules as definate while others (myself included) try to be fair and listen to what is being said while keeping the rules in mind. My PM box is always open is there is a problem with a Mod. 90% of the time it is just a misunderstanding. Admins Mod the Mods (if that makes any sense).
Are the Admins too harsh (answer wisely, lol)? I don't see any huge problem with the admins, just the same consistency problem.
Same thing, we have three active Admins. Myself Eric (BlueMeanie) and Allen (Humanoid). They are here to help you guys out as well, we make team decisions.
Should the Camry Show and Share be integrated back into the regular forum? Yes,especially since some pic threads get moved by some mods and others don't.
Can't disagre with that one, plenty of PM's on it. The whole section was my idea, it just didn't work out.

No problem, LammyDi is probabley correct on using just a signature link. I actually increased the signature sizes (lines) to handle this.
Are we too hard on new users?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Some of the new users super suck.
lol, we all have to start somewhere. But this is always a catch-22, it is hard not to flame someone for a noob question but on the other hand we can't have the boards cluttered up with floor mat thread either
PS. I may add more later..
