Hey everyone, im starting to retrofit my 2002 camry. i got all the supplies already including some TSX projectors. i was wondering have anyone else retrofit with TL bi-xenon ones? if ya did how did u get work? Is it worth getting some TL's ones? Holla back at if you know. thanks and ill get it posted on how it looks
tls haven't been tried in the gen5 but they are possible. they are bigger than the tsxs and lots of other projectors so it will be more of a challenge.
if i were you then yes i would put the tsxs on here or on hidplanet and get either tl with zkw lenses or fx-rs or rx afs with custom shield and clear lenses.
the tls will be bixenon so they will have a low beam and high beam. they are also know for their width. fx-rs have more foreground and they are more compact so easier to mount.
i think best would be the fx-rs. pm me if you have questions or look on hidplanet forums in jvx's comparison threads but have your drool bucket ready.
i am currently working on a dual projector retrofit: TL projector with ZKW-R lenses, and hella 60 mm high beam projector. I'll take some pictures of the progress, but it's going slow... i'm drawing up some brackets in Pro E that I want to get custom machined. It's not an easy job, the TL projector is huge in comparison to the TSX. I will likely have to trim the stock bezel to accommodate the solenoid.
FYI, i currently have a TSX retrofit, so yes I think the TL is worth it

what happened to your old old TSX setup? did you ever sell it?
i was able to fit the LS430 projector in the gen 5, i don't know what other projector is bigger ls430 projector.
i also have a pair of TL projecotr, they are a little bigger than TSX RX and FX i've seen.
There's not much of a point to use the bi-xenon TL projectors, for our Gen6, the high beams are seperate anyways. TSX and TL projectors are very similar in cutoff lines, I'd say just go with TSX.
Other options are the LS430 ones and S2K ones as mentioned. I'd say the LS430 has one of the widest beams and greatest light output. But the S2000 projectors have one of the best cutoff lights and sharpest colors at the middle.
Are you retrofitting with all OEM parts? Like Philips or Hella ballasts and bulbs?

yea im retrofiting with all oem parts... another question i got with the tsx projectors. i read on some forums that they colored the shield and housing themself. which part did they color, the whole housing or just the front part or just the back part only? and what do u achieve once u color them?

They paint just the shield , usually flat black to eliminate the flair in the cut off line.

if they painted it, they painted the outside of the projector or the shield. painting the shield and housing is mostly aesthetics. more so for the housing than the shield... for the shield, painting it gets rid of that rainbow effect you get in the beam pattern.

even though we have a high beam already there are benefits to having a bi-xenon too specially out there where there is not many people on the roads. you'll see much more with both halogen high beam and xenon high beam. also the tl's low beam output stomps the tsx's. that alone makes it worth it.
if i were retrofiting i would go rx afs modded, s2k modded, fx-r, tl with zkw, or sc430 with e30 lenses. most people who have tsx redo the retrofit at a later time because they didn't go all out the first way. do it right the first time... (before you start a flame war i said most since some are happy enough with tsxs. others will see the ones i mentioned and will want to go better)

if you do keep the tsx then yea you can just paint the shield. i believe its the side thats facing the lense. don't do the top or the other side. theres a tutorial on hidplanet that will explain this better as i didn't do this. i do know it gives you more blue at the cutoff and a sharper cutoff. though the tsx still will suffer from the classic bit of flare going up on the edges.

im sorry....im a noob to this....so paint the shield flat black cure it...and paint the front part of the projetor house too and cure that too.....and not to paint the back part of the housing....correct?
i would just do the shield. don't need to do the rest. i can't find the exact tutorial/link but search the forums of hidplanet via google or something. too busy looking at stuff to fix my car. what you can do for a cool effect is paint it a flat blue or flat red or flat grean. when off the lenses will look that color and give it a cool effect. also both projectors.
