5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
There is a vibration on my 2008 LE V6, which the stealer can't seem to fix. There is a vibration between 65 and 80 mph. After I rotate the tires the vibration is much less noticeable. Then after another rotation, which happens every 5000 K, the vibration comes back and is very noticeable.
The toyota technical rep test drove and could not seem to agree to any problem, which is not a surprise - but had the stealer replace 2 Bridgestone tires. This did not help.
The tires/wheels have been rebalanced 3 or 4 times and car has 16k miles on it. This problem was noticeable since the car was new.
Do you think I need to find a shop with a better Hunter road force wheel balancing machine? Or is it possible it could be an out-of-round rim?
Any help and/or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Hub centric rings can not go onto stock rims because they are the same diameter size in hub bore.

if it is not under braking, chances are on the alignment. I had this vibration problem for MILES, and I finally went to an all hand alignment shop that specialized in hotrods and tuners alignments. They had no computer, did it all by hand and measurement, and vibration went away.
Good luck buddy.

Before you spend anymore time and money, I suggest you find a member on this forum whom live near you. See if you can borrow his/her set of wheels/tires to put on your car. (make sure this set have no problem at all) If the problem goes away then you have a bad set of wheels/tires. If the problem doesn't go away then the problem is in your car.

Hi
U have front hood deflector?
I got the same problem b4 and dealer didn't find a thing. I found out the culprit was the hood deflector plastic thing was under high speed the wind lift off the deflector and cause vibration.
U check and post some feedback to toyota nation memebers!
i saw something that said there is a tsb now for this problem. i have my wheels road force balanced ant the problem went away. be carefull and drive dirrerent roads. i say this cause there are some parts of my trip to work and home that would lead me to believe i had a vibration problem. it turned out to be the road cause when i would pass that specific point it would be smooth sailing.
^As mentioned, it was probably when they put the new tires on. I just got Bridgestone RE960s and I have the same problem at 65mph. Especially under heavy acceleration.

Hi Mitch,
I also own a LE V6, a 2009 though, but been having similar issues. I looked through the TN archives and found some posts of other Camry owners who've had this type of problem before, but no fix seemed to have ever been identified. There was an owner who ended up changing all tires and enjoyed vibration-free driving for a months only to end in square-1 later that year.
My LE currently has 8k miles on it. When I took her in for the 5k service, I had the tires rotated and that was when I started noticing the vibrations. It started with the front end almost shimying at low speeds and now there's vibrations at freeway speeds (i.e., steering wheel shakes).
A few weeks ago, I was preparing to have the four wheels balanced THEN aligned, but it seems that....again basing on your post and from others....it will be money down the drain.
Just out of curiosity, does your LE have alloy wheels or hubcaps on steelies? How often do you....uh, 'remind' yourself of the power of that V6? I've done a few hard launches where the tires chirped...even 'axle hopped'. Mine did not come with traction control. My tires are still OEM - Michelins S8. I'm just wondering where the other commonalities are as these problems seem to happen with V6-equipped (or in blown Camrys ) and most are LEs.

Same thing here. Took it into a local shop that did the alignment by hand and cured the shakes at 70mph and the 'pull'. My car also liked to drift to the right if I let go of the wheel.

Exactly what are you guys referring to when you say "Vibration"?
Steering wheel? Cabin? Front? Tires? Under braking?
If you have bumps like the tires are jumping around driving at high speeds, then you need to get your wheels balanced.
Alignment is generally when your car does not drive truly straight, but you might as well get it aligned at the same time.
If it is under heavy braking (I have this now), Toyota has a TSB for that.
Better start getting used to it. It will never go away and the dealer will never recognize it. They'll blame tires, aftermarket stuff, anything. You can try the TSB, but chances are the dealer will not do it because your car will not fall in the VIN number range. Happened to me. Did the hunter crap, you can faintly feel it, then after 2500 miles is all back again. I have steel rims with those expensive michelins V rated tires. I had Nexens, which looked awesome, but vibrated at 50, then continentals that vibrated at 60, then after a long ass fight with the dealer I bought their michelins with the hunter balance. That was at 36k miles, now I am about to hit 70k and still there. Look me up in the older posts and you will find my whole ordeal.

I have the alloy wheels w/ Bridgestone Turanza. I only once took the opportunity to dust some punk in an Audi A4 and experienced the violent torgue steer, wheel hop - the tires were screaching so much that it sounded like I did not have traction control on this car - which I do - made me have a better appreciation for rear wheel drive cars!!
