5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've searched my heart out and this is the only thread i found, but didn't help much.
My 07 V6 runs like a champ...except for some really super low idling sometimes. It's especially noticeable when the engine is warmed up.
When first started It will idle anywhere between 700-900 RPM but after maybe 20 minutes of driving it can dip down to as low as 500 at stops. This of course is concerning and annoying when it feels so rough.
I don't know if this is related - on certain shifts, after letting off the gas the RPMs will drop super low and "bounce" back up to a normal level.
With that said, I don't feel any lack of power or any weird vibrations at any certain speed.
Of note: I do have a K&N typhoon (cold air) intake installed. I've double, triple and quadrouple checked all the hoses myself and had others do the same. Nothing suspicious. I've had the ECU flash performed by the dealer. Didn't seem to help.
Any thoughts? Should i complain to the dealer again? Live with it?
(45,000 miles so i still have some powertrain warranty left in it)
live with it? never... take it to the dealer... Try to capture a video of the rough idle and show it to the dealer... do you have the right amount of fuel pressure? and I'm assuming 700-900 idle when the car is warmed up correct? if cold, it should idle higher for a moment

Thanks for the input.
When i FIRST start it up you're right, it idles around 1,200 ish for a bit before i put it in drive but after that it never gets back up that high. It just continually drops as it gets warmer and warmer until it bottoms out. Ironically this 1,200 rpm cold idle is totally smooth and without any vibration.
At worst it's around 500. Usually it hangs around 600-650.
As far as fuel pressure, i've never adjusted anything, with it. So unless something is causing the loss in fuel pressure that i don't know about then that shouldn't be an issue. I've used all kinds of grades of gas. I threw in 91 for kicks and it doesn't seem to help any with the vibration.
I'm not SUPER concerned about it if it's not going to hurt anything, but it seems as though it's just not normal.
I've thought about it... but working full time and a full time college student leaves little time for a swap like that just to try it out. Plus, I like the sound of the intake
Do you think it's a problem of the computer not compensating for the increased airflow with more fuel? I would think that it would be dynamic enough to adjust for that.
I'll probably try taking it back into the dealership the next chance i get.
If it's in neutral or park it doesn't have any problem at all, the RPMs jump right back up to the 700-800 range.
Didn't want to start a new thread so posted in here.Having some idling issues also with 2007 XLE V6.No intake mods or anything.Actually just got 60K service recently so air filter should be good.Dealer charges $100 for throttle body service so I got me a "CRC throttle body and air intake cleaner" brand spray can from Pepboys. Will this spray be okay cause i've heard that throttle bodies have some type of special coating in it.Never done any throttle body cleaning before so was wondering if it's just spray and wipe kind of thing.Anything i should look out for and any tips from people who have done it?Heard it's best to use lint free cloth also. Also heard that it's better to actually take the whole assembly off and clean it or is spraying and wiping from engine bay good enough? Thanks.
i'd rather seafoam to help out my idle and clean out my gunk.
I've seen some videos on here about seafoaming and is it just that easy too?Just spray and drive off or rev the hell out of it?Sorry if i'm kinda picky but don't want any check engine light coming on or anything else when i do this.First time you know. And if i do seafoam it,do i use a whole spray can?
You basically use the whole can, and you spray it directly in your vacuum line Theres no point of putting it into your engine or your gas tank, since the vacuum line will effectively spread the seafoam throughout all the vital parts of your car. Since it's a vacuum line, it sucks. plain and simple lol.
You're not supposed to rev your car, but you're supposed to drive it. The theory is putting your car under load, so the seafoam effectively goes throughout all of your engine.
and yes, for throttle body and gunk cleaner, i'd definitely recommend seafoam, but who am I? I'm not ASE certified or a master toyota technician.
but TRD-vvti is, and he also recommends it lol

Seems simple enough. So the one to get is Seafoam SF16 oz can, right? Also, how long until the white smoke clears.Don't wanna be driving around the city and people looking at me funny, even worse they might say"Clear the road that Camry's gonna explode".
1) Whatever can that comes w/ the little red straw lol.
2) Do not rev up your car while adding seafoam, but be sure to put in just enough for your engine not to die.
After you put in everything, then shut off your car and wait 15 minutes.
Then drive it until all the white smoke gets out of your car. You will have trouble starting your car in the beginning lol
