Idle Noise FYI
Never post but figured this was good info.
An FYI for any high mileage Gen 6 4cyl.
2007 LE 4cyl. Makes a ticking noise at idle. Normal I know. Just rolled 81K miles last week. Noticed a loud popping sound at idle, more so when AC is on. Can be heard at highway speed, so it's pretty pronounced. Figured it might be the belt. Wanted to swap it anyway as preventive maint. Bought a Pep Boys Dayco belt for $49.99. Popping sound remains and now have belt squeek. Ordered OEM Belt from dealer for $24.99!! Took car into dealer for TS (since we now know it isn't the belt). Tech says that it's the Tensioner Assembly. No longer automatic, all hydraulic now. Doesn't see too many 07's with my mileage but says they go "on occassion" around then. Not a crucial repair but better than waiting for it to fail. Ordered the Assembly and will put it in this weekend. Cost $280 + $25 for belt. Not bad. Dealer didn't charge me a penny for the TS and washed the car to boot!
