05 Camry 72k miles tune up ???

Hi all,

My 05 Camry has 72k miles on it. I've never had it tuned up before and I'm planning to do brakes and tune up at the same time. It's going to be DIY and I have a body who's going to help me replace the brake pads.

Besides spark plugs and air filter, cabin filter need to be replaced, is there anything else need to be done at this point ? any belts need to be replaced ?

Thanks all,

You don't need spark plugs. See the "Newbies please read before posting" sticky at the top of this forum. There is a link in there for the factory maintenance guide.

Well the manual says sh*t about when to replace spark plugs--so when do we replace them?

1. Check your gas mileage. Spark plugs that are worn down and corroded by burns and carbon deposits will stifle engine performance efficiency, resulting in poor gas mileage. If your car sucking up more gas than normal, the spark plugs would be one of the first things to look at.

2. Hard starting / rough idling. This can also be attributed to your carb/fuel injectors being dirty, which would fall under a general tune-up. However, spark plugs could also play a factor in this.

3. Time between last spark plug change. It used to be every 30,000 miles or so, longer with other cars. If you don't know how long it has been, pull the plugs to check for excessive wear and/or carbon deposits. Be sure to consult with your owner's manual for plug location and/or any special tools needed to access them.

Okay thanks. I have a 2006 Camry with 30K miles, but the manual says nothing about when to replace.

Thanks again.

Hi Everybody, The manual says: 2007 Camry
120,000 Miles - 144 Months for changing Sparks.
http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com...t_id=24&done=1

Isn't this too long ?
In the manual what's delivered by an gen 5 camry, the sparks has to be changed by 60000 miles. Both engines are the same.

I think the 2006 plugs were platinum, but the 2007's are irridium.

Even the platinum ones should go 100,000 miles...

The manual DOES say when to replace them. You just have to read it...

At this mileage i'd change the pluggies, if only to make sure they are not seized in place. I always use high temp anti sieze on the threads.

The Iridiums should last 120K miles. By then maybe they'll be seized in the engines.

I'd take them out every 30K miles and put a dab of plug antiseize 3 threads away from the tip. Torque them back at 13 lb/ft so the metal casing doesn't stretch and crack the ceramic insulator.

Harbor Freight $15 3/8"-drive torque wrench works fine for this. You can use NGK Laser Iridiums for up to 120K mile performance.

Yeah, I called maintenance schedule booklet the manual and was corrected in another thread. Maybe this is the reason?

I don't need a torque wrench, because i was born with a calibrated arm.

My manual says nothing about miliage of the spaks. The manual on the internet says 120000 miles. As I read in this thread my 2.4 gen 6 camry should have irdum sparks.
120000 miles is still a long way to go........
Thank for helping everyone !
