Gen6 Custom sub build and install (56k warning: may invoke compufuse)

hey all,

I have finished installing my subs in my trunk! everything is custom work, done by me, my dad, and my friends.

many thanks are necessary here. mostly though, thanks to Tobeit for the inspiration, my buddy justin for the wiring, and EXOcontralto on youtube for keeping me from investing in capacitors lol

SPECS:

Amplifer: MTX audio Jackhammer JH-600

Subwoofer: MTX audio Jackhammer JH5512-04

wiring: streetwires power station 4-AWG kit

Carpet: Parts express "charcoal color"

Building material: FURNITURE grade birch 3/4" plywood. no, its not mdf, bur its about as dense (14 layers of knot-less birch) and dosent crack as easily.

all materials were bought at Crutchfield, Parts express, or Loews.

on to the Pics!

construction:

big box

lol, not a port. this is where the inner (small) box connects. its a compound design.

finished box, no face plate yet.

Routing the hole.

hole finished, tee nuts added. the location of the hole meant i had to figure out a way to countersink 2 tee nuts so i could seal the box. That was a MAJOR pita.

the shape of the face plate made it hard to determine the middle. asymmetrical trunk ftl. i got the sub balanced by using the defrosting lines on the window and the trunk latch.

test fitting...

just a test fit! on to installation!

Installation

I was worried about not being able to install myself.... until i read the instructions.

the carpet...

Wiring diagram. capri sun is SO good

we went through the grommet behind this plate. this plate is under the glove box btw. it was pretty easy, and got alot easier once we used a wire snake. we also just pressure-fitted the wire with the exsting bundle intead of cutting through the nipple-y thing.

this bracket had to be unbolted to get to the wire. that black tubing thats inline with the left end of the engine cover ( a little more up in the pic) is the wire.

stealthy wiring

We didnt mount the fuse casing cause i heard it was hard to get apart if you did? i didnt want to take the risk

the amp is hidden behind the face plate.

the JH-600 has high-power inputs... no LOC necessary

ground wire. dips under the carpet behind the face plate. im not sure what the thing was, but the ground is piggybacked to some other wiring that was grounded on the right side of the trunk. ( red box?)

End Result! what do you think?

my trunk floor dips a little cause i broke the spare covering installing
like the color match?

next step: making this out of clear 3/8" plexi. then perhaps doing faux port holes on each side of the sub, and putting in waffle grill.

It's nice, that's the only way i would put another system in my car. But why not 2 subs if you brought the face that much forward?

touringcamry: you and I both wish the "other" jackhammer was in the trunk except the required volume exceeds the volume of the entire trunk lol

redline_me: originally I was going to go ported in this project. when It turned out that this sub needs like 470 inches of port volume and 2 cubic feet of space i gave up. even sealed it needed a BIG enclosure. like 1.25 ft or something.

not that there isnt enough power. at 5 volume on the jbl radio, bass at -5, and my bass knob on MIN, I'm still fuzzing my mirrors but for a budget of under $400, im happy.
