I saw the post moky made about the coilovers rating from best being number 1 as the teins, etc....but what i was trying to figure out is someone who has went from springs such as H&R, teins, or trd to coilovers, how much more worse or better is the ride with coilovers (megans)?
I currently have H&R, I want to go lower and deciding if i should just go with tein springs or some megan coilovers, becuase i want to keep a decent ride still as my car is driven daily.....
i went from the eibach springs to ksport coilovers. well seeing how i adjusted my coils to the stiffist from the start, i'll tell u that it is REALLY stiff compared to springs. but its all good i dont mind the stiffness (no homo)
from what i have been reading. megans will be as stiff if not a bit stiffer than say se struts and any spring combo. bc racing and teins from what i read you can adjust to as soft as say stock se suspension or maybe even xle suspension or softer. depends on setting and spring rates.
i also want to get coils and have decided i'll be getting bc racing coils soon. people on the aurion forums said at about 6 clicks from softest they are at where the stock se suspension is. i want to set it to about that or softer for winter since roads get really horrible and for the rare time he spends driving my car. for me i'd probably have it on 10 for summer lol. i don't mind the stiffness. hope i helped and others are welcome to correct me.
my megans are 10x stiffer than SE struts and spring combo. Dhanel, you just have to ride in a coiled car to get the feeling. nothing we say can duplicate that.

yea i need to take a ride with redline or the others who are coiled. paul your megans are stiffer but thats because you have them set like that. how soft would they be at max softness or close to it?
the problem with having your coils set very soft is that you will likely rub since you are lower...my coils are set to pretty stiff.. when i push down on the car it moves maybe 1/2 an inch, and on bumps it may move 3/4...this way i will never have to worry about rubbing or damaging my front fenders when turning.. the ride may not be fun, but i like it..my only problem is that my in-dash nav is clicking, i need to get some extra supports in there.
well i'm not worried about rubbing. if i have it set on max softness then either i'm in winter mode so i'm raised or my dad is driving the car which would mean not too many miles and he drives pretty slow and careful anyway. if megans when on max softness are comparible to my xle suspension or a stock se suspension then i'll get megans. if not i'll get bc racing since someone with a aurion mentioned that on i believe 6 clicks from and 10 rear from softness, it was as if he was riding on his stock suspension which is like our se suspension.
personally i drove my friends se with kyb struts and trd springs. i didn't mind the more stiff ride at all. i driven even worse so i don't mind. winters though, the roads get pretty bad so i would love to set it softer. also my dad kept complaining about my friends ride when he drove it so i would love to keep him quiet when he drives my car. he pays insurance, pays gas, is letting me drive his car while i wait for insurance money for my car, and helps me with installing my mods so i would like to return the favor whenever he drives my car.
paul mind trying the softest setting on the megans one day when you free so i can know how soft they can get?

yeh im actually leaning toward the bc coilovers, but feel like megans are the most common out there. ....i get wat u mean paul, its the stance and handling thats making me get coils, it just seems so perfect lol

yeh im kinda in the same position i want it to be comfy on long trips, and stiff on my daily drives i dont mind, if the megans can get close to the stock se comfort zone for long trips i would get those instead....
when i used to daily my camry, i actually hated the coilovers when it came to day to day driving. plus getting in and out of a bucket seat is a pain in the ass.

IMO if you're getting coilovers and are looking for a comfy ride, then you don't want them. If you set them too soft the car gets bouncy and you will rub an it wont feel as sharp. If you set them stiff then you will feel every little rock that you drive over, you won't rub as much depending on wheel size and offset, but you will break your neck if you whip the wheel. Also, after 3 months with coils on and some negative camber in the back the inside of my tires is gone and about to blow any day, i'm taking the rims off tomoro, the steel is showing and in spots it's even gone through that.
edit: i lowered my car over 2 inches on 20" wheels.

Redline,
+1 on what you said. As I researched more on coilovers I found out the same thing so no coilovers for me. I'm staying with Eibach springs.
