5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
- Got new tires installed 2 weeks ago, and last week I noticed a slight vibration. Went back to Firestone, and asked if they could check and make sure they were correctly balanced.
- Picked up my car, and they said there was 'play in the rack and pinion.'
- Went to dealer and informed them, and they told me if they told me that if it was that, it would be fixed under warranty
- Went back, and they told me if was the wrong lugs, and that my wheel wasn't correctly centered as a result (or something to that extent.)
- Went home, and torqued my rims to 78, one lug in the front was loose--defective lug?

i think you are using the wrong lug nuts. I used to have those same IS250 rims (not chrome though), and i used the lug nuts with washers attached to them.
I used the same ones from my original wheels, the shank style ones, they fit with no problem, and a bit better then aftermarket ones, since they are somewhat like ET style lug nuts.

i hate those lug nuts...i've went through two sets....and i've hammered off the covering because the metal is so so soft, they are always stripping....i like them better just as a hex nut....
Thanks guys. Guess this thread is done. I had steelies before, so I don't have those lugs in the picture above.
Oh yeah, just remembered. After had the problem checked out, the dealership wanted me to pay about $160 or so to purchase/install lug nuts. I declined, but the service guy kept trying to convince me. Took a couple minutes for him to finally drop the issue.

It's necessary to use those ET style lug nuts, since the holes on OEM toyota/lexus wheels are a bit larger, namely to fit the Toyota shank style lug nuts.
We should add the types of lug nuts necessary on Lexus OEM wheels to that big thread floating around. You shouldn't need hub rings by the way for the ISx50 wheels.
