Unhappy D2S HID/Xenon bulbs dont fit Camry Projector, any ideas?

I had crashed my last car, which was a Lexus with a front end collision, being as the headlight housing was gone, i was able to salvage the ballasts and bulbs of my factory HID kit. However, I tried to install the kit and the d2s bulb is too long for the projector of the 6th gen camry, it wont fit not to mention the light output wasnt good at all. Does anyone have any idea of how to get around this? My ballasts have a D2 base and id hate to scrap them and have to buy a whole new kit.

THanks in advance

The US Gen6 has halogen projectors, not HID projectors, very different, since Gen6 have H11 sockets, not D2S sockets.

Your best bet is either mod the stock halogen projectors, by getting the socket to fit, as well as removing the squirrel spotters for a cleaner cutoff line, or save the D2S kit for whenever you decided to switch projectors to real HID ones.

Or you could sell it.

As far as i know, the camry does not have HIDs even as an available option.

I have to see where i can find this socket to make it work, i dont imagine they would have it at autozone. When i searched this topic, i kept reading everyones reference to "squirrel spotters" but i have no idea what that is. Do you think my light output would be the same as halogen or better if i got the socket and dealt with the "squirrel spotters"? I just dont want it to get worse for the sake of a better color. My car is leased so i dont want to go through the hassle and expense of retro for the projectors.

by scrap, i meant save, to sell i dont know if they are worth all that much.

Your 2010 camry will need rebased bulbs sized H11.

By socket, I meant you would have to physically modify the stock housing to accept D2S bulbs, by either dremling it or finding some other custom way to make them work.

For a leased car, probably not worth the effort to go through that.

If anything, you can just pick up an HID kit and run that.

just buy some rebased bulbs and some adapters for OEM ballasts to kit bulbs. No need to buy an entire new kit... but if you really want to do it properly, retrofit some true HID projectors in there!

it can be done like said but involves some very skilled and precise cutting. you need to get the focal point exactly the same as the halogen bulbs and you have to get them in same as the originals were. best bet right now is to sell and get a h11 kit. this won't be as easy as it seams since the instructions are out there only for the 07-09 projectors and not the 2010s. so this involves more guess work.

DJkor, i wish we did but Toyota chose to leave us in the dark...

Darksparkz, yea i guess, i was just trying to avoid costs for something i already had sitting in my garage hoping it would be an easy drop in, never dealt with H11 before.

PUNKS, I know plenty about that site and HIDs in general but im inexperienced with Camry projectors. Some Halogen projectors, including those used in Lexus, were a simple drop in and alignment of the bulb filament in the projector and worked well enough with HID. In the past, ive worked with modification of my cars headlights that didnt have HID as a factory installed feature. The most difficult was, being a 9004 bulbs in my maxima, which have both hi and low beam filaments with bi-xenon projectors. Im anything but novice in Xenon lighting having worked with Denso, Bosch, Philips, Hella and Matsushita, most of which i still have spare parts for. Im sure you feel your vast knowledge of avoiding HIDs for fogs makes you qualified to put disappointing smileys on peoples posts. The fact of the matter is, I wrote in a Camry specific forum, to find out about a Camry specific headlight with a certain projector that comes on this model. I wrote it here, cause people here have experience with that same part and i could get POSITIVE advice and ideas. After all, i thought thats what forums were for. I would think as a MOD, youd know that

LE05, I think youre talking about the adapter that has either base on each end and about a foot of wire in between but I dont think those adapters exist for the H11 bulb cause as far as i know ive only seen them for H3 fogs, 9004 HB1s, 9006, H4 and H7, its a good idea though, ill have to look for that. Maybe things have been updated since the last two cars ive had have been fortunate enough to have factory HIDs.

Pawel, I wasnt even aware that the projectors were different within the 6th gen cars. I dont want to go through all the effort and expense for a car thats not really mine. Especially since they wont even appreciate it at the end, they will probably charge me for a new headlight at lease return. Im happy this thing at least has factory rear LEDs.

In the end, i dont really care about a better light output or pattern, oem is good enough as long as its not worse and when i tested the bulbs, it got worse. Im more focused on the color, I love the hue that comes out of the projecter with the HID bulb. I never used anything but 4300K OEM OSRAM or Philips bulbs in any of my cars and never recommended more than 6000K for anyone elses.

if i were you i would do the retrofit. reason being is that you can always take out the headlights and put in stock ones so that you can sell yours. that way you get money back and have great lighting during term of lease. if not atleast you can reuse the internal parts. new hid vehicles have semiclear lenses and other restrictions on them. people who have stock hids still retrofit some better projectors.
