hello i have a transmission question

hi, i have a 1999 toyota camry le with the 4 cyclinder attached to the A140e transmssion and the car has a total of 226,000 plus on it and i want to make it last for my dad. he cant rememberthe last time the transmssion had entirely new fluid put into it. right now i am attending wyotech in pa. and i have acces to a bg flush tool to put new fluid into her. the fluid doesnt smell burnt its color still has a little bit of red to it but is darkish my guess just from the age but i dont know. what are these transmissions like if you do a transmission flush with out the cleaning additive added to the flush, but if i just put new fluid in by itself. do these transmssions hold up decently to time ?

Don't do a flush. Just do a drain and fill. Replace transmission pan gasket and filter and you'll be fine.

I think it would be even worse if you changed it now.

Drain and refill. You can do it 3 times within a 5-10 K mile period. A flush will dislodge stuff and make it go around and mess the system. That is my opinion.

The Aisin A series are probably some of the dirtiest around because of the lack of proper filtration. But they seem decent. Certainly better than the newer U-series clunkers with shift problems.

Drop the pan first. Change out the strainer and wipe the pan/magnets clean. A Fram ATF kit should do it at ~$15. Or check out the Transtar Industries in Pittsburgh.

And drain/refill three times with as little as a few days in between. Then do a fluid exchange after that if you still feel like it.

I'd put a Magnefine filter on the cooler return line. Should be changed every 15-30K miles however. First one probably at 1000 miles. Just make sure it's the right direction.
