5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Has anyone tried sourcing the HK spec OE HIDs with leveling motors for their North American Camry? Seems it would be a direct bolt-on application. Not sure if the price would make a plug-and-play setup worthwhile.
Also, is the shape of the 2010 headlamp housing any different from 2007?
Headlights for 2010 has been discussed in comparison to 2007-2009 headlights in Gen6.5 thread and I believe in Netforcers Gen6.5 mod. They are bigger and shaped slightly different.
Netforcer is the only person I/we know that has done the conversion.
Wow, that's a nice (and quite easy) conversion! Not sure I want to go that far just to get HID's. I'm still on the fence for a retrofit vs kit and was hoping the new OE housings would work. Maybe it's time to look at a 6.5 -> 6 projector retrofit...
go on ebay, buy the new mdx xenon projectors for 135 or whatever they are ; buy bulbs, ballasts, and harness; and then seperate headlights and install. very simple. just take apart headlights, unscrew the old projectors, screw in new, and put headlights back together. might want to drop in a clear lense on the projectors. check out glenn's thread.

You would have to get new headlights, bumper, grille, emblems, etc. You want to get 6.5 headlights just to put HIDs? You do know that the 6.5 are not HIDs right? They are projectors.

No, I was just thinking a projector-only retrofit using the 2010 HK spec HID's. I wouldn't do a whole front-end conversion. I was just thinking of using the HK HID's to get the factory leveling motors included in the setup.
If the outcry is big enough I can ask my cousin. Whats your price range? Most likely they'll be brand new OEMs from the Toyota there so I'm betting it'll be expensive with shipping and all...

why not source japan 2007-2010 headlights with hids built in? the 2010 is not worth it because projector is larger so more than likely the "guts" will not fit in. 2007-2009 is 2.5 while 2010 is 3.0.
with the leveling motors... how are you going to get them to work if you don't have the other necessary electronics??? yes they will get power but how are you going to move them without a input to tell them when and how much. if you say through a switch then it's not worth it. just buy some rx330s or other projectors with them and just get those to work the same way.

Wasn't aware that the 07 Japanese model had HID's too. Just asking if anyone has any experience with the levelers as I haven't been able to find any info here. With my last car (Passat), all the parts for auto-leveling hids (including the sensors anc computer) are readily available via German parts suppliers. Was hoping the same would be true for the Camry and that I'd come across a member who had been down this road.
