Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I drive an 07 camry SE. a friend of mine basically moved some tubing near the intake area that he claims improves airflow/intake, I have before and after pictures of what He did. Can someone give me a second opinon?
1.) Here in the unmodified image you can see two tubes coming from the left side going into to different things.
2.) Now in this second picture he rerouted the tubing so that on the left side one tube is looping back into itself, and the two parts that were tubed to that originally are now tubed together by the darker grey tube.
Thoughts? Or can someone offer me a better explanation?
Thats probably what im going to do. I just bought the car a month ago with only 17K. Coming from a corolla i love everything about it. The only thing I've done is add a k&n drop in filter, tints, and HIDs. Any suggestions on improving MPG? this is the V6 model
The looping back together is not the key to this mod... I removed the sensor all together. The key is the bypass straight into the intake tube.
What it does is switch the vacuum lines to keep the intake valve open at all times... it draws cooler air at all times
Ok so in essence, Whats the benefit here? Whats the potential risk? And can someone tell me how the heck your suppose to install an HID kit in the fog lights?

I don't really know how it works, but it seems that there is a valve in the intake that stays closed at low RPMs and opens up at higher RPMs to allow more air in as the engine needs it. This mod keeps that valve open so that even at low RPMs, the engine gets more air.
I'm pretty sure the gen 5 intake has a valve like that too, going to look into it, and hoping someone already knows also.

This mod DOES NOT give the engine more air. Like I said before, it only give the engine cooler air at all times by keeping the front valve open at all times. Air entering the engine is controlled by the butterfly valve in the throttle body and not this mod. The only way to get more air into the engine is going forced induction.
does this improve mpg? I noticed my 07 camry se v6 is only getting about 220 or miles on a full tank. I bought it 2 months ago as a certified vehicle. It had less then 17k on it. Any ideas?
full synthetic oil, clean air filter, spark plugs shouldnt be a problem. also check the tire pressure in all four tires and as stated above change your driving habits
thanks..seeing how I bought it from toyota with only 17k on it I really don't think any issue is there. Like when I switched to a k&n drop filter, the one they put in was new. I understand its a V6, and I don't drive like a mad man. About 70% of my driving is city. So I definitaly feel something is wrong. On average how many miles should I be getting realistically off a full tank? I'm at the half way point with 112 on the trip odometer...now considering it holds 18.5 gallons I'm thinking I should be getting more. Thanks guys. As this my first camry, upgrading from the corolla.
