trunk opening problem

so i drive an '08 camry le and my trunk wont open when i lift the latch thing in my car but it will open if i use my key both pressing the button and through the keyhole

any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

cable could be disconnected at the latch or trunk locking mechanism itself

The trunk lock is turned "Full Clockwise", use your key and open the trunk, and pull the key back out when in the middle position.
