Remote Start

So my mom just gave up her old car that had remote start in it and im thinking of getting it for her for Christmas, in her 07 Camry which she took from me.

(im in college 5 hours from home and our other cars wouldn't make the drive more then a few times so i got the nice car, for awhile)

Any way im just wondering how you guys feel about a remote start?

Thanks

What is there to feel about a remote start? It starts your car up, warms up your car, warms up in the winter and cools interior in summer without ever stepping out in the cold/heat and going back inside the house until its time.

my main reason was for the alarm but when they said it's only a few bucks more, i said why not. they said do u want the 2 mile instead of 1, i said sure why not....

and it slowly added up =P

Dammnnn

When it's 10 degrees outside 7 months out of the year and your car is covered in ice, it's not a waste of money at all. And no one can steal your car.

How exactly does the remote start mean that your car cant be stolen, some one else on this board (sorry read it a few days ago) assumes it is the reason that their car was stolen thats why im asking.

Is there a factory remore start for an '06?

Cold out side.... wife hits the button... car is warm.... priceless..

"If momma aint happy, aint nobody happy"

Question.... if you leave the seat heater ON, does it come on when you remote start or does it only work when you butt is in the seat like my Dodge Durango was?

Seat Heater comes on when the car starts if you leave the button(s) pressed to the on position.

Most starters will not allow you to put the car into drive. My husbands engine turns off as soon as you touch the brake if the key is not in the ignition and turned to the 'on' position.

We like our remote starter in the winter. New England winters suck, so it's nice to get a head start on defrosting/snow removal and not freezing in below zero temps.

There is your answer. Us in New England know what it's like to have to go to work in the morning during winter. We had snow here in CT in mid October.

5701 only comes with 1 mile range. You cant add range to it. So if they asked if you wanted 2 mile, you got ripped off. 5901 is the next model up and has 2 mile range. The range is only if you're in an open field with no obstacles in front. If you're in a city with buildings the 2 mile radius isnt "2 mile range".

I've had my 5701 for over a year and still use it. Comes in handy in the winter and during the summer.

If your car is remote started, no one can drive your car without the key.

Didnt OP state that there was a remote start in previous car? Same thing applies to what you get now and install.

Even if there is a factory remote start, its probably crap. In the Gen 6, you remote start the car but when you open the door, car turns off. In aftermarket remote starts/alarms, when you open the door, car is still running. Only time it shuts off is if the timer up is or the brake is pressed.

Same here in NY. Sucks having to go out and defrost the car when you can do it in the comfort of your home. Leave the heat on and car is nice and toasty as well as heated seats (if you have it). Same goes for summer. Leave the AC on and remote start the car. By the time you get in, its nice and cool

OP is in Ohio, I dont know how the weather is there but I dont you get extreme cold or heat

They get snow I believe.

Either way if he's got the cash and the want, I don't see why not. Plus I like it because I am a bit old school and let my car warm up a smidge before I put it in drive, especially when it's cold.

Driving a 5speed when the engine is cold, sucksss, and then you add the cold transmission to that and it's a annoying first 5 min if you're in city streets.

Yeah my mom lives in cleveland where the winter is normally like 4 months long with a couple of feet of snow.

And i did mention the remote start in the old car but iv also heard quite a bit about them being recently being stolen because of the remote start. hence my comment.
