5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I live in Germany right now, and I was up in Aachen for the weekend when my car got keyed for some unknown reason. I wasn't parked weird or anything. Whatever.
Anyway.
It's been keyed down to what looks like the metal, but I can't be sure. I know it can't be buffed out. And I was unaware that even though we paid the $500 insurance deductible to replace the windshield in July, that we'd still have to pay the $500 deductible for this as well.
I don't have that kind of money.
Can I use touch up paint? What is my best course of action here?
Just use touch-up paint and forget about it. Its not worth the money to repair. Its only cosmetic and nothing that is life threatening or a hazard to your passenger.
I know the feeling back in 06 I had my 07 Camry SE for 2 weeks when I went to a best buy literally ran in and out to buy a CD 5 minutes tops and when I got home I discovered a key mark from headlight to taillight swooping up and down the length of the car! Luckily they weren't strong enough to get down to the metal and it was just in the clear coat so it buffed out pretty well, if the light hits it just right at the right angle you can still see it a little but barely. PPL just suck someone who will probably never in there life be able to afford a new car just saw her sitting pretty all shiny with the temp plates and the envy in them came out.

You have to pay a deductible everytime you claim... You should've known that...
How long is the scratch? if it's not long, then you can touch it up, sand, and polish. If it's too long then I suggest a paint detailer.
what car do you have?
and
I've only ever had to make two insurance claims, in two different years. I thought that once you met the deductible, that everything was covered from there on out.. like health insurance, lol.
The scratch spans almost the entire length of both doors. MOST of it hasn't gone through the paint/primer/whatever. But there are spots where it definitely has. What worries me is that it's coming close to snow season, and they're going to be salting the roads. I don't want it to rust.
To quote Andrew Dice Clay " so many A__ Ho__s, so few bullets"!
I had a guy ding my door on a car that I just rebuilt, you could literally still smell the paint! He got the size 11 in the doorskin! From the look of his truck, I'm not sure that he ever noticed...
What about one of those bumper/ding/scuff places?

since it bugs you that much, get it repaired. i would.
He has to pay a $500 deductible through his insurance. He can pay out of his pocket but even that is still not worth it. Get touch up paint and be done with it. Why spend more money on cosmetic when somewhere down the future, another spot will get dinged.
I got hit with debris when a trooper drove on the shoulder of the highway. Kicked up a piece of wood and left a dent and trail mark with paint chip on my rear passenger door. That made me cry inside but I just used touch up paint and dealt with it.
That money used to fix that minor problem could of been put towards a flat or engine problems or even bills.
Cover it up with touch up. Wait a few years before getting it fixed, by then you won't notice the scratch.
Body and paint work is never as good as factory no matter what.
Current factory paint is crap. When I had the car, I had rock chips on the hood within 2 months of owning it. I had my '95 for about 15 years and no rock chips on the hood.

I was told by the ppl at True to Form that the clear coat was much better in the 90's. I had the front of mine touched up after a bump up with a shopping cart and opted for the hardest / most expensive clear coat. No chips after 4 years.

yep stock clear sucks. i started getting rock chips and stuff on my front after only about 1 week. keep in mind that this is a white car so you notice everything. now since my body shop is good and they got me the expensive stuff. no signs of anything yet. *knock on wood*. not even on underside of lip.
