Anybody ever get a steering wheel leather wrapped?

I've been looking to get my other cars wheel leather wrapped and I found this place on line that does phenomenal work only problem is that its expensive. I know the wheel skin route is only like $50 and looks great but the spokes aren't covered that way and it doesn't give that OEM look. Anyways this i what the guy quoted me

- Wheel $249 (one solid color) or $279 (two tone)
- Shipping $17
- Turn around time is 2-3 days.

I'm very tempted if it wasn't so expensive. Has anyone gotten this done cheaper? The work is great but it seems a little expensive to me.

I have not, but I looked into this couple of years ago as well.

This guy charges a little less.

Yeah but do you think $300 is justified?

Wow quess this type of work really is expensive! Just got a quote back from the guy.

Once in house it would take 5 days to do plus shipping
Cost is 269.99 plus shipping 33.00

Funny how I thought this would be like $150-$200 for this I mean I can buy an entire katzskin kit for 6-800 bucks There cant be more than 4 cubic feet of material used here.

The thing is it's all hand craft work. You're mainly paying for someone's time (labor) as opposed to materials. With a katzskin kit, it's all sewn with a sewing machine and mass produced.

Good quality leather steering wheel makes a huge difference.

My RAV4 came with a leather steering wheel from the factory and it's very glove soft/smooth and high quality. The thought that came to mind was a Lexus when I first touched it :-)

However, the RAV4 came with vinyl sunvisors that felt like it came from a Toyota Tercel :-( I don't expect leather sun visors, but I wished it was at least cloth.... I suppose they have to cut costs somewhere.

That looks really good but my car is black so with grey interior there wouldn't be enough of a contrast between the black and grey colors. Yours looks really good, I love the black and the red contrast did you do red stitching on your leather interior as well?

... but obviously in a more real leather. That leather on this one feels alright, but something about it just isn't 100%. Maybe I'm expecting too much when I want it to feel as soft as a leather couch.

USA

Yeah those guys are pretty damn good doing it have you seen the you tube video it takes them like 15 minutes to do an entire wheel. It's some guy in Mexico so I don't really don't want to send it to Mexico but he's crazy. Yeah the sun visors do feel crappy on the Rav4 but nothing is worst than a urethane steering wheel. I haven't had a car with a non leather steering wheel in such a long time. The last time was my 2000 Accord that I replaced the wheel with that of a Acura CL.

Nice links, I might look in getting this done too.

However, since I'm in Canada, shipping a steering wheel all the way to Texas will cost an arm and a leg.
