5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I own a Camry 2005 2.4L 4cyl with 65K. I bought it almost two years ago Pre-used with 35K. I purchased everything possible, alarm, gold warranty package and more warranty packages until 100k! After all that I paid 19K out the door! With out all the options it was 16k, either way I am happy with my full out right purchase!
I have alot of questions:
What engines can I swap out with?
how can I modify my cars performance? Speed, shocks!
what other car models are interchangeable with my model for parts?
*example- Can't find a Strut bar, found one but it cost $250!
I know, I know, I know... I hear all the time, "Why the hell do you want to modify a camry". Well, I own it, and when i bought it gas was almost $5.00 a gallon so the best things at the time not knowing what was going to happen with fuel prices and what not i bought a camry! i dont have 19k to spend again a car but i got some money to do something with what i got!
thanks,
P.S. Are air compressed suspension/shocks any good? I test drove a Camry 2007 SE and O MY GOD the ride was smooth! I was wondering if i installed air shocks or other things like that i could get the same ride by adjusting the shocks! Is that how it works or are they just for raising and lowing your car up or down for looks witch i don't care for! but if i can adjust the way it rides they i would spend 2k on some air compressed shocks or whatever!
Like strut bar! they don't have none for the Gen6 camry but make one for the Gen7? Could i use that one?
who says they don't make one? TRD makes one, and i'm sure there are tons of different types sold on Ebay. honestly, if you really want to improve the suspension, the TRD rear sway bar makes the bigger difference. get springs or coilovers to improve it even more.
FYI, gen 5 is 2002-2004, gen 5.5 2005-2006, and gen 6 2007+
Please do a search next time, there are tons of threads on modifications for the gen 5's.

it clearly says 6th generation Production 2001–2006
Seventh Generation Production 2006–present
That's where I got the whole 7th Generation info from!
It's says the Fifth generation Production 1996–2001 and the pic does not look like my car!
P.S. I did search the forums! there are some much stuff I could not keep track! Since I am a new user and this is my first time ever posting on a forum anywhere! I figured i would create a forum that is just all mine so I don't get confused and can keep better track!
bc the 4th gen was never here in the state so skip one, get it? so u r the one miss read, read again n look again
;-)
I did not read anywhere that there is a connection to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camry and www.toyotanation.com reffering to SKIP that model in the forums section for the fact it was not introduced to the US! -I am j/k i am being a smarty pants!
... But it makes sense! thanks for helping me make sense of all this!
I concur!
So...
knowing the proper classification = check, thanks to kenny
Engine modification/turbo kit = Check, thanks to kenny "Sweet mod BTW"
What about...
Air shocks! Adjustable shocks? Are they just to lower you car up and down for show? Or do they serve a better purpose by actually controlling how soft or hard your ride is?
I seen some nice setups for sell with gauges, switches, and lights! but if there just to lower you car up and down for show i am not to interested yet but if it controls how smooth/soft or rough/hard your ride is then i will go out an buy one of these things!
get coils so u can adjust it, or go air with using a switch, idk more about air anyway
anything else let me know if i can help, u should get that turbo kit bc its custom u cant find it anywhere, i want the kit so bad too bad no $$$$, plus that price u can beat it, im putting $ to my supsention now im more for looks

By the time this forum is done i will have almost a check list that I can print out to start my project since this is my research!
NEXT CHAPTER - Suspension & coilovers!
So I explained how I test drove a 2008 camry SE! The comfort was insane! I went down all the normal roads I would normally! BIG CHANGE!
My best friend told me not to get the air shocks and that coilovers ad a better way to go!
the most i know about them are for lowering you car!
But do they serve a better purpose to make your ride smooth? I mean really smooth!
So if coilovers lower your car, by lowering your car does that make your ride smooth or rough? The higher the car is raised by the coilover the smother the ride or what? bow does that work!
I would like make my ride smoother! I don't really care about lowering it so much for looks i am into more performance right now! but if lowering it by coilovers makes it smoother and by raising makes its rougher well i will invest on some coilovers!
Coilovers are used for better handling performance. You can adjust the ride height. They are not for a smooth ride at all, they will be very rough. You can change the dampening to soften them a bit but not to be smooth. They will give you great handling though and a much more stable car, with little to no body roll. To make things clear for you, You either want performance or comfort, you can't really have both.
You can buy a UR front strut bar for like $110 bucks shipped i think, if the price hasn't changed. You can find a lot of info if you search the forum. Check out the long threads.
hey.. i got an 04 i4 camry and u said that i can turbo mine? correct? lol well how come when iwent to search for a tubro they said that there is no turbo for an i4 camry!! wtf was tat about? i m pissed now cuz i got 105,000 miles on it already idk if its worth it to turbo it now? what u guys think?
lol well how come when iwent to search for a tubro they said that there is no turbo for an i4 camry!! wtf was tat about?
does anyone bother to read the threads that they are linked to anymore? its a CAMRY... a family car. there won't be any bolt-on turbo kit not custom made sold anywhere. the turbo kit that kenny linked to is custom made.
