Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey all,
While I am not new to this site, I am new to Camry's. My Gf/soon to be fiance, is purchasing a certified 08' V6 Camry SE w/6-speed auto trans. And her and I have a few questions.
DISCLAIMER: I have tried to use the search function, but each time I get a fatal error message. We are heading to purchase this car today and I was hoping to get some answers prior to that. Thanks
First, the car is certified with 25,000 miles. It is loaded with everything except nav. The OTD price will be under 21k. NADA, Edmunds, and Kelly BB all have this car valued at 23,500. Is under 21k OTD from a dealership a good deal on this car?
Second, for those of you that drive in the snow, how do these cars perform?
Third, Are there any major issues with the car, such as TSB's or recalls that I need to have addressed before we take delivery?
I appreciate any and all the help you guys can give me.
First, I think that's a fair price for out the door... hope you test drive it before you purchase tho.
Second, My car handled fine in the snow... it's all about the driver... make sure you are in a lower gear and do not smash the pedal. It will be fine.... You can always get snow tires.
Third, the major problem (or concern) is the VVT-i oil line rupture... they changed to a new line in 09, so your 08 may be bound to have this problem sooner or later... Check the left side of the engine below the engine mount to see if you see any oil leaks... or just ask the sales rep.. it's a common problem, so they'll know about it. If they don't they are either an idiot or they are trying to hide something.
Also, shift flares are an old problem, there was a TSB out for it and should be fixed for the 08 models
yea just check the oil line and thats it. there pictures around here and on google of how it should look. should have a all metal line. if you have anything else then before getting it ask them to fix it. deal seems ok otherwise.
wasnt someone able to though just order the all metal one with associated parts and swap it out? i could of swarn i saw in the vvti thread that someone did this and it cost him no more than like 70 bucks. either way just check on it. my dad's friend has a 07 xle and believe it or not it's the all metal one. he doesn't know though if they changed it or not. they could of because he was in for a few tsbs and such.
Thanks for the insights. We purchased the car and it runs great. We bought it as a Toyota Certified vehicle so it comes with a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty. I will tell my gf to keep an eye out for the oil leak. I can't wait to start moding her car. It is going to be so much fun! Pics will come tomorrow!
well since you already have it. open up the hood and check out the line yourself. look to the left of the top, left corner of the plastic engine cover. theres a thread about this either on first or 2nd page of this section with pics of all versions. if it's all metal then tell her not to worry.
I wasn't able to get decent pics of the car yesterday as it was buried under about six inches of snow, but here is the online listing from the dealership with a bunch of pictures. Hopefully it will dry out here in the next few days and I can get some decent pictures.
This car is so much fun to drive, I thought my Tacoma had balls until I romped on it in this!
