5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm new here and was looking around to see what all of ya'll have been doing. Ya'll are doing some great stuff with your Camrys.
Got some questions:
1) I wanted to put some pep into the my 06 Toyota Camry SE I4. I've added the K&N drop-in air filter and was looking to get more power without doing any pricey mods. I found a product called Supercharger Turbonator Stage 2. (http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Sup...tage-2/548722/) Does anyone here know anything about this or have tried this? Any thoughts on such a product.
2) I'm having a hard time looking for aftermarket parts for the 06 Camry SE (Tail lights, head lights, etc.) Any good vendors out there that would have parts for the 2006?
3) Any Houstonians that have a good private mechanic?
good electric superchargers are like unicorns. even if you find one, theres still a high chance youre gonna get owned by some crazy $hit. like a unicorn horn. these superchargers are basically gimmicks for people looking for cheap power. if, IF, you notice any power gain at all it will be negligible on a Dyno. the only effect people seem to get is similar to a "placebo" effect because you know you installed it. basically you will be installing one more thing to stress your alternator, and one more thing that can break and affect your engine.
If you want to add more pep to your camry there are other options available that won't break the bank like a custom installed supercharger. lightweight rims, real carbon fiber parts, a low-resistance exhaust, a sport catalytic converter or an engine re-bore could be all you need.

You can't get anything you listed for less then $200, so if you want to add power, it will break the bank.
For real power gains, you need to spend real money.
Your average leaf blower puts out about 450cf, so if that electric supercharger really forces 900cf of air into your intake, you could see a gain of 20-30whp. The leaf blower in the video above added 10whp for the Honda and over 15whp for the GMC truck.
But, my advice is to still avoid it. If it really worked, everyone would be using it.

FIRST OFFFFFF!!!!!
Welcome to TN.
Next I would like to apologize for such rude behavior by our fellow Nation members.
Now having said all that, being relativity new here, I don't really have the right to what I just did, or said, but I understand why they went off on you. It is just plain old frustration about all the gimmicks being sold to people.
That filter you bought. A very good one but will not give more power.
That supercharger is not a supercharger and yes it is a waste of money.
Any chips you look at buying will also be a waste of money.
What everyone here said is correct. An the big one being you will have to spend real money to get added performance. From lighter wheels and exhausts and up.
An this is very important to understand. Your car is computer controlled to meet very specific guidelines. Anything you do will require remapping of that computer to gain real benefits.
Ask just how much you are willing to spend to get real power/performance gains. If you want fun with the car look at suspension changes and wheel changes. Go for exhaust changes for nicer sound. A lot of fun can be had with a car that can corner on a dime, for very little cost to you. 0-60 times under 5 seconds will cost you huge money.
But again welcome aboard.
EDIT: Oh and we both I4 Camry brother. It's a big car with a okay power engine. If you want to do anything and love the SE trade up to the V6 would probaly be the cheapest mod you can do.

We'll, the K&N filter has given me better mileage and there is a slight difference from the mid to high rpm range. I'm not looking for an all out racer. Just something that will make my commute to and from work a little better.
I can understand the frustration some have shown with my question. I just asked because I want to know if someone actually did it and if they did, what they thought. I never said I was gonna do it.
judge, I was looking at getting the 2010 Camry SE and noticed that their V6 doesn't come with a manual transmission. Only their I4 has the manual trans.

Well hehehe, I never say this but do a search we have a long time member here that installed a turbo, he has a very impressive description with lists of all. One very cool cat if I say so myself. Read his journey log.
This dude impresses me and after 30 years working on aircraft and cars it takes alot to impress me.
Thanks dude, i know those pics aren't the greatest, almost all were taken with my iphone. I never got a chance to do a proper photo shoot this summer, the weather was crappy all the time.
