Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, before anyone says anything, I know that ebay projectors are crap.
I do want to try HIDs, but I don't want to stick a xenon kit into my reflectors and blind everyone from here to Asia.
So I'm wondering, would xenons in an ebay projector do the trick? Will it be more beneficial than not? I don't want to go for a full retrofit due to cost + labor time, and I'm not especially handy with those kinds of projects.
depends on your luck. some can take it and give you something half way decent and some will do more bad than good. best is to get a set, see if the projectors are any good, and if they are not then do a full on retro. should be easier since there was already a set of projectors.
ehhh, honestly, modern HID conversion kits are not like those from past. bulbs have smart shields, so the glare is not bad. especially if you follow headlight adjustment after HID installation (in a reflector i mean).
you could even cover the squirell spotters and minimize the glare to minimum, if you don't like it. around me there is lots of HID equipped cars and less than 25% have projectors, some of those HID-kitters are blinding because they never adjusted lights (or did it badly)..
if headlights are adjusted well (a little below standard) then you shall have no trouble with blinding others. since i did that correctly, no one is flashing lights at me. even cops like the lights (white 4300K) ... or rather they were trying to memorize my plates to hunt me down later LOL
I had no money for a retro projector, don't even know if there is one for my car. anyways, after 2 weeks of driving zero trouble here.

Squirrel spotters? I thought those were openings on projectors... or are they on reflectors too?
reflector doesn't have squirrel spotters. certain part of the reflector bends up the light to light up signs. thats why the ricer civics create so much glare. no matter what you do, reflectors will still glare. no kit today has what they used to(d2r bulbs with casper shields or the equivelant). there are a few though that have these bulbs that reduce glare(pretty much a rebased bulb with a sort of shield to reduce the glare) but they are harder to find.

the quality of the projectors in the ebay projector headlights is questionable at best. You can try it, but I think you're wasting your money. The typical ebay projector headlight uses H1 projectors... at best they're good for foglights, so you do the math. I think you're better off saving up the money for a full retrofit. If you're not handy or don't have the time, head on over to hidplanet.com. There's a page somewhere on there that has a list of people or companies that offer retrofit services.

honestly, if you have to lower the lights to make HID kits work in reflector headlights, you sorta defeat the purpose of having all that extra light. all you're doing is reducing the amount you can see down the road, and since none of that extra light is focused properly... you're just lighting up the ground 2 feet in front of you rather than 50 - 100 ft ahead of you where you really need to see! just my 2 cents

my bad with squirrel spotters LOL. read about them recently, and didn't pay attention it was about projectors (still learning all this stuff)

nah, it's sort of far away, however the lights stays below certain levelk and do not blind others. i can see pretty much far away with that. much more than 2ft lol...
lat's say projectors would make it only a bit farther.
