5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I see rattles and squeaks are still a problem even after having all these production years to get it right and make design and production adjustments to prevent the issue.
If you are unfortunate enough to get one of the sloppy interior builds, are the rattle and squeaks easily fixed at the dealer?
It is almost impossible to make such rattle-free vehicle. It's a moving thing, even our bones sometimes make cracking noise.
Plus the cost, what you pay is what you get. Even the high-class vehicles sometimes have rattles, or even worse.. electrical problems.
When you take it to the dealer, you have 2 options, fix or it'll get worse. Personally, if it doesn't bother me that much, I would just leave it alone.

There must be some sources of rattles that come up repeatedly as the cars are all made the same way. The dealers should be reporting these back to Toyota and they should not still be happening in a 2010 model of a car in production since early 2006.
It has to be much easier to the factory or fabricators to add some soft felt lining or padding in the common trouble spots than for dealers to spend hours of labor tearing the car apart to try to fix it later.
They must have learned over the years that certain loose wires have become prone to make noises and that putting some of the pieces of hard plastic touching each other may become a problem with normal driving vibrations and temperature changes.
Also the link I posted in the first post shows general sloppy interior assembly in "several" of their test vehicles. I thought Toyota specifically said they were going address quality problems that have been coming in the last few years. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/15/business/15auto.html
The 2010 should be at the top of the class in build quality compared to all similarly priced sedans by now, but is rated as only around average.
How do you think the numerous rattle/squeak TSBs came about?
4 years later, they still have them?
Quote:
Cabin materials are generally serviceable, with soft-touch surfaces, and inoffensive faux metal or wood trim. Several test cars disappointed with unsightly seams, misaligned plastic panels, and assorted interior squeaks and rattles.
Having things like this sorted out should be a benefit giving up having the newest thing around and waiting until the car is late in its model run to purchase.
You don't have to compare to other manufacturers, just compare to Toyota itself earlier.
Cost cutting is the reason why Toyota's quality in recent years have gone down. It's too bad really, after the stellar years in the 80s. It's like a midlife crisis, and then it's all downhill after that.
Nov 26, 2009:
"News flash: The men running Toyota appear to be mortal. They overreach
and make mistakes. Their vehicles are not flawless. Their engineers
cut corners, at least in ways that garner the attention of the
National Highway Traffic Administration. Their Camry no longer is the
undisputed king of midsize cars, now that rivals Ford Motor Co. and
even General Motors Co. are proving they can produce world-class
metal, too. "

Plus your subwoofer... I'm sure your head is rattling too.

Hahaha right on! My sub has certainly introduced rattling from the doors and rear shelf. And my dash creaks when it's cold. Oh, and my shift lever can squeak.
