5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I went to the dealership to find out more information on a i4 SE with a 6 speed manual but after some discussing with the salesman it can't be done. So I inquired about the cost for a Camry SE v6 w/ nav just for kicks. After some talking It came down to $30,250 out the door with tax and license and there is a possible $1,000 rebate which I think is a pretty good deal.
I took the car out for a test drive and I love it. It's almost fully loaded with leather, nav, heated seats. It's so quiet and rides very smooth. I told the dealer I need to think about it because its more than I wanted to spend on a car (i was originally looking to spend 24-25k)

i paid 28,200 out the door and i have everything except navi so i would say thats a descent deal

I paid about $28,500 for an '09 V6 SE w/nav and leather. The way I did this was bring in a copy of a quote from Costco's auto website. Their prices are exactly $500 over invoice, so this is a powerful bargaining tool and at the very least gives you a good starting point for negotiation. I also managed to get the 7/75K warranty down from ~$1500 to ~$800 after I kept saying NO, I don't need it.
A Costco membership is $50, but I don't even think you need to be a member to get the quote (if you do, just ask someone who has a membership to do it for you).
Njerald is correct. Forget about any trade in values until you establish the actual price of the new car. Discover what the documentation fees are--they vary by dealer and are rarely mentioned until you are shoved into the closer's office. OTD pricing is great if you are lazy. Do a little work and it will pay you back ten fold. Get prices of comparable cars at two or more dealers in your state so you can compare apples to apples. If you want to go out of state, great, but figure the costs of the trip in as well. Finally, buy only as much car as you need or want and don't let anyone talk you into any spiffs like Lo-Jack.

Sticker price is 31k before tax and license. One of my family members works for toyota and i'm getting an employee incentive price which brings the car down to a little over 27k but after tax and license its back up to 30k. I asked if they had any 09's left since they would be a lot cheaper but they said they are sold out of all but a few 09 Tacoma's and Tundras.

Don't know about Gen 6 but I just bought a Gen 5 XLE with 34K for $16K and missed another with 25K for $15.5. I like the Gen 6 better but this was the wifes car. I gave her the choice of a used Gen 6 LE or a used Gen 5 XLE V6, Leather, moon roof, climate control, heated seats. The choice came down to a nice inside or a nice outside, she chose nice inside which I knew she would. She wanted a moonroof and seat heaters, that sold the deal. I have had it for about 2 months now and we love it. With her driving to work and the grocery store her last car got beat up, I couldn't bare to see a new one get beat.

$16k is the right price for a camry. 25K or more is crazy, damn CEOs making a killing.
^ If it's worth that to YOU-then it's worth it. Sounds like a great deal to me, IF you are looking for a brand new car. If not, you can probably search auto trader locally for a slightly used one with all the toys and save yourself thousands while you are at it.
buy a used camry, anything over 20K is too much, they were meant to be "affordable people movers". The japanesse are crazy with those high prices.
I think he's right, if you buy a used car with even one or two years on it, you let somebody else pay all that depreciation (that happens the second you drive your new car off the lot and it becomes a "Used car"!) Don't even take my word for it, ask Kelly Blue book to see how much that new car smell costs you. Moreover, if you get a car with a couple years on it, it probably has a service history, alot of which can be often be checked via carfax and others, so you can see if its a lemon or not. And not only do you save big time, you again let somebody else do all the work of fixing the minor glitches and bugs, if any, of the new car.
