5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm trying to get my wife's 09 Camry down the track a little quicker than I have in the past. My problem is I'm getting some violent wheel-hop. Any thing close to full throttle is impossible for the first 60 feet. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?
It's a fun sleeper. It is so much fun beating up on American muscle cars! I just wish I could get a good 60' time...I'd like to see a 12.99 1/4 time soon.
If you look up "wife's camry" on you tube you can see video of it. I was having traction problems. If you look close you can see tire smoke on the 2-3 shift.
We had a long thread about this a while back. It's the suspension in our cars, it wasn't meant for drag racing. I have coilovers now and i have no wheel hop.
I forgot what the thread was called, but if you do a search for wheel hop, you should be able to find it.
There are a few suggested fixes, but I'm not sure which one is best. I think an engine torque damper would be the cheapest/easiest fix, but nobody makes one for the Camry (at least they don't make the bracket).
I'm sure fixing the wheelhop problem would help acceleration quite a bit, but then again, 13.8s 1/4 @ 103mph is pretty amazing for a Camry (best I've ever heard).
Thanks for the info about the other threads. No my wife's car is not stock. Nothing real crazy. She would kill me if I voided her warranty, and it is serviced at a Toyota dealer. The biggest improvement was the custom y-pipe. The next time its on a lift I'll post picturs of it. I just bought some bfg drag radials...can't wait to try them
You're the first person to show proof that those upgrades do anything, so I'm curious to what you did. Please post details when you can (price too, if you don't mind). Thanks!
I have the 6.5 with the MT, even with 180 hp wheel spin is easy. You would still need real fat sticky rubber and changes to suspension. But it would of been real nice to see that setup (se v6 with MT)
