Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Here's a heads up for those looking for an easy retrofit... Easier than RX330 non-AFS and MDX...
I had my suspicion of these projectors for some time and I finally acquired some, so they are not easy to find. The following pictures are of a 2007-2008 Solara xenon projector installed in a 07-09 Camry headlight housing. The mounting holes and little notch in the bottom of the projector line up perfectly - no cutting or modification needed to mount the projector in the headlight. These are D4S projectors, so they will require either D4S bulbs/ballast or a D2S bulbs can be notched and then used with a D2S ballast. The projectors come with the frosted lenses but look like E30 or TSX clear lenses will drop right in.
Thought I would share my find to TN.

nice find. could of sworn i just seen those on hidplanet. we'll next thing we have to look into is custom shields for these suckers. i'll be done with rtagn's retro soon so i'll be able to get these or the mdxs to do custom shields on.
edit: also just noticed these have no width limiters like the mdxs or rx afs or i believe rx non afs too. mind taking a pic with no shields on and having a picture of regular output side by side? i have a feeling that we might be able to take these a step further...

I just got these off ebay, but they could have been on HIDplanet prior. The guy I bought them from just said that they came off a 2008 Toyota, so I thought about it and the only 2008 Toyota with Xenon projectors is the Solara. They came with bulbs, ballasts, ballast gaskets, ballast wires, and shrouds. I plan to build these as a D4S system using the 07 Japanese-built headlight housings that have the flat spot for the ballasts on the bottoms.
So, D4S retrofit #2... This time with OEM housings, not the aftermarket housings...

You're right, no side limiters like the RX non-AFS. I will see what I can do for pictures. My bench power supply has been acting up lately, I may have to just run them off the battery in my car to power them up.

sounds good. i have some aftermarket headlights for rtagn's retro with the spot for d4s ballasts. really like it. kinda makes me want to get a set of these to transfer my retro into. like i said get a shot of the projectors on with no shield/bracket and a picture in same spot with same settings but with the bracket on. also at about 25 feet. if you want more info on what i'm thinking then drop me a pm. i have a idea to make this your best retro yet.

I don't have a clear shot for a 25ft wall shot nearby, I will have to drive into town where there are some warehouses with big walls. These are close range in my garage but they will give you an idea until I can get some better pics like JVC's on HIDplanet. I think I know what you are thinking and yes, these have the potential for a nice wide streak of light for a superwide cut-off line with a custom curved shield. NO SHIELD PICS:

E30 clear lens does not seam to fit the solara lens holder... Since its plastic, I didn't want to force it. But the RX non-AFS projector lens holder fits the Solara projector, I was able to try it out:

yep looks like my hunch was currect. if you feel like getting some more width and light then try lower the shield 1mm-1.5mm. you'll need to do some cutting but it's worth it. also you can try dremeling down the solara lense holder, though i see no reason not to reuse the rx non afs one. they are most likely identical besides the opening.

I will definitely "play" with these projectors to get the optimal output and color. I think I need to get a set of TSX-R clear lenses to add to the mix of possibilities, but the E30's seem to have the best color from all the pictures I've seen.
Just a side note, the D2C aftermarket bulbs have multiple alignment notches in the bulb and will fit D2S, D2R, D4S, and D4R and use D2S/R ballasts. I used a D2C bulb for all the pictures since my power supply wouldn't light up the Denso D4S ballasts...

i wouldn't use aftermarket bulbs. it's been proven that they burn hotter and the output is different(different focal point). i would grab some d4s ballasts or use a dremel to get the d2s bulb to fit in. also would use e30s. love em. best color around.

Agreed. And aftermarket bulbs color temperature is rarely what they say it is...

LnGasman,
Great find,, I did not know that the 2008 Solara came with HID Projectors.. Those are even easier then my MDX retro haha. With the E30 lenses they look like they put out some great color... Looking forward to how you mod
them.. As Pawel said JVX's custom bent shields would look great. Thank you
for sharing your findings. Looks awsome.
Glenn
