Newest Nav Disc?

We still have the original Nav disc in our 2005 Camry, time to get a new one.

When do the new versions come out? I'd be disappointed to buy one and then have a newer version come out a week later.

Where is a good place to order one, besides my "full-retail-price-on-everything" dealer?

The newest Nav disk (V9 I believe) came out in Sept/Oct of 2009. Won't be a new one for at least 6-9 months.

Thanks. Does anyone have a part number for the current version? Perhaps Toyota people are better, but GM employees and the dealerships are totally clueless about which GM version is current. Lots of people have paid good money buying a new GM disc, only to discover that it wasn't the latest version. And no, they don't give you a refund or exchange.

The part number you need is 86271-GEN04-09 It means generation 4 nav system, release version 09. Retail is $199.00. I'm relatively sure you can find it online somewhere cheaper.

Can a 2005 really be the 4th generation Nav?
It seems pretty stone-age to me...

Yes, you have the 4th generation. the 07+ has the 5th generation, along with most of our product at that time. The only system to still have the gen 4 is the avalon. Now, gen 6 is being installed in all venza, prius, 2011 sienna, land cruiser, 4runner, etc.

Very interesting, thanks.

The factory Nav in our Corvettes (2006, replaced by 2009) can interchange discs with our 2005 Camry, sort of. Using the Camry disc in the Corvette sometimes produces better routings, but the using the Corvette disc in the Camry will not allow the voice directions to work in the Camry.

Both systems impress me as being highly non-intuitive compared to Garmin and others. Once you finally figure out the Corvette system, it's actually very good. In traffic, I love having turn instructions presented in the Heads-Up display on the windshield. I haven't used the Camry system as much (wife's car) but it's probably good also, once you figure it out. I did notice the Corvette will allow you to access the first page of "Previous Destinations" while moving, the Toyota grays them out.

There are ways to get around that. Just a hunch, but I would google search "toyota navigation override"

Update on getting the new disc: I tried 3 internet places for cheap Toyota parts-

Toyotapartscheap.com has changed the phone, the recording gave me a # for directory assistance.
Toyotapart.com website wants $198.20 but the part # and model year don't match.
Toyotapartscenter.net answered the phone and wanted $350, yes $350 for a disc.

Three strikes and you're out.

My local dealer says they can get the update from this Fall by tomorrow, $200. SOLD!
