5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I work for a telecommunications company and they recently provided me with a super white 2010 camry se. Now ive tested this car compared to mine and mine absolutely destroys it from a 5mph roll and standing still. This car feels like a v6 and probably is but then how come it loses to a piece of crap 09 v6 vtec (which i man handle). I called my local dealer spoke to the parts department gave them the VIN and they told me its a v6 i looked up on wiki and it told me it has the Rav4 engine in it. I AM SO CONFUSED?!
your post needs some clarification. Vtec are Honda engines, not Toyota. It also seems you're not sure if your 2010 camry is an I4 or V6?
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 2ar fe is a 2.5L four cylinder engine, and the 2gr fe is a 3.5L v6.
Also both the 4 and 6 cylinder engines on the 09's and 2010s are exactly the same so I'm not sure what the "peice of crap 09 vtec" that you are referring to is?
OP, you were driving the 2GR-FE which is the V6. It also just happens to be used in the RAV4 V6 version. I am glad that you can "manhandle" an 09 V6 vtec(im assuming a honda accord?) whatever that means. Still not sure what your question is, but it wont really matter, I think this may get locked
idk sounds like op is driving a 2010 2.5 se and is comparing it to a v6 vtec. no way the accord will beat the camry stock. my friend has one and it's not that fast.
I'm not sure what's being discussed here but if i have the same take on it as Pawel, I used to own an 09 vtec v-6 accord and now own the 2.5 litre camry and I must say the Camry is just as good.
Toyota uses both the 2GR-FE and 2AZ-FE engines in many of their cars, ranging from Highlanders, RX350's, Scion tC, Sienna's, Camry's, Avalon's, RAV4's, and some others.

Pop the hood and see if it is V6 (2GR) or I4 (2AR), otherwise you cannot tell by external inspection on SE models...
If you are used to drive a V6, you can definitely feel the I4 is weaker...
Gen6 Camry V6 is more powerful than accord V6 with 5AT althought accord has 3 more hp on paper!

Amen.
Open hood, and take a look, and that WILL end this "mystery". At least I hope it does. . .
BTW, I'd add that the current V-6, the 2GR-FE (as already noted), has "2GR-FE" conveniently molded right on the top rear of the plastic engine cover. Not trying to be undiplomatic, but this is not brain surgery.
