Gen6 OEM Oil Filter or Wix oil filter?

I've been using the toyota OEM oil filter on my 2007 V6 camry. I am due for an oil change soon and I was wondering if i should use some other oil filter such as: wix, napa, pure1, ect. I was thinking about getting Fram, but after reading some mixed reviews on this forum, I decided to stay away from it. Does anyone know the performance or quality of the OEM oil filters? The dealership are selling the OEM filters for about 6 or 7 bucks, where as I can get a Wix oil filter for the same price. Should I stick with the toyota OEM oil filter or get a Wix filter or it doesnt matter at all?

Buy a Fram and compare it to the Toyota filter for the 2GR engine. I myself see no difference at all, but the Fram will likely cost more than the Toyota if you buy them in some quantity. Ask your dealer for the case price, or check the many discounted Toyota parts sales on the internet. Even with shipping, they will be cheaper than what you are paying.

You can't go wrong with the Toyota filter. Wix may in fact be making a better filter than available from Toyota, but then if you are changing the oil and filter on a regular basis, it hardly matters.

Fram is the lowest quality filter on the market. I am an Engineer that has done research on these topics. I have data that I cant disclose. Just use the OEM filter and you will be good.

I couldnt find the FRAM filter cartridges at any of the major auto chain stores near me. They never stock everything and you either have to order it online or have them order and ship it to the store.

I bought 10 OEM oil filters for $36. Which amounts to $3.60 each.

Price of shipping has gone up but its still cheaper than what dealership would charge.

You can also contact some supporting vendors in the forum. There are some from dealerships that does online sales. You can contact them for pricing of oil filters. I contacted two vendors on the cost of oil filters and oil drain plug washers since I need more for my 09 Camry SE and 2010 Matrix S

The Pep Boys, O'Reilly's, and Auto Zones in my area all hve the Fram. When my car was new I got a couple Frams and a couple Toyotas and took one of each to play with. Did some purely unscientific studies of them but from a practical perspective I could find no difference. No, the Fram isn't 12 bucks here--closer to $4, so my point here is that I can buy a Toyota filter or a Fram for essentially the same money, they look alike, seem to filter the oil the same with similar results. Same number of pleats; same plastic parts. Apparently the same everything. Given this, there is no reason not to use the Toyota filter on a regular basis unless it simply is not convenient to get one, in which case the Fram is a close second.

Yea, I dont think my dad was looking at the correct one. So I highly doubt the Fram that he saw was $12. Probably looking at something else.

I did a oil change in the freezing cold on our 2010 Matrix S and the oil change on my v6 Camry is too time consuming. Than again, I clean and wipe off all the old oil in the canister that holds the filter cartridge.

Thanks for the input all. I'm gonna go for the bulk/case price OEM filter.
