5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I went to start my 2010 Camry this morning and a shit load of blue smoke was pouring out of the exhaust for a good 10 seconds. This is the 1st time in a while i started it manually because i have remote start and usually start it from inside my house a good 5 mins before i leave so i have no clue if it has done this before. Then i went to start the '08 with 27k miles and not an oz of smoke came out the exhaust. Id hate to think my valve stem seals or my piston rings are worn already. What else could cause blue smoke on such a new car? 5K miles. 2 oil changes with Mobil 1 full synthetic so far.

I can't speak for an '10 Camry but I can tell you that my '06 Tacoma did that exact thing when it had about 15K on it. I thought that I had a stuck ring or something, a huge blue cloud! Now with 110K it's still running like new. I have on occasion seen a small little puff but it never did the smoke screen again. This may/may not be comforting, but I don't think that it's something to worry about.

my '02 XLE 4cylinder with 78k miles has blown blue smoke on the first start of the day for a good two years now. The oil has always been changed regularly. Now my car isn't new like yours, but I've had no problems with mine so I wouldn't get too worried. You could always take it to a trusted mechanic to get it checked out.
Take it back to your dealer as soon as you can and tell them what is happening. Maybe leave it overnight and let them start it morning cold to varify the problem. You want to get on record with Toyota about this problem. I would also bring your receipts for the 2 oil changes you did, assuming you did them yourself. The dealership might even give you a loaner overnight.
Nah that isn't normal, regardless of how hard it's driven. Valve stem seals may have failed prematurely? Back to the dealer with this one, modern cars shouldn't blow blue smoke from startup.
No, it's not normal. See if you can find in the manual that it's normal to use 1.1qt of oil every 600 miles. So if the dealer does an oil consumption test and you burn 1.05 qt every 600 miles, guess what? It's "normal" according to Toyota. So it's all in the eye of the beholder.
Bring it in to the dealer to have it documented. Maybe take some videos yourself as well. I'd start reading up on your state's lemon law.
