There aren't many guys who have turbocharged a 2AZ and few that have seem to be low boost setups on unopened engines. They're a relatively high compression engine, you would need to deal with that before making serious power on one of these.

Generally speaking though Toyota seem to quite heavily over-engineer all their engines.

Yep high compression turbo conversions are super sensitive to the tune, it's the nature of the beast.

If you intend on boosting it hard I'd be inclined to crack it open and either play with the combustion chambers and/ or the pistons. Also you can suss out the rods to see if they're up to the task, but I'd guess they are.

Do you want an engine that will go for 200,000 miles or is this not a concern? If you're going for long haul, you probably need new forged connecting rods (the stock ones are cast) and better pistons. The engine is all aluminum with steel sleeves, so it has some built-in limits unless you're not concerned about putting a rod through the engine block.

4 bolt mains would be ideal and somebody somewhere probably makes a block like this, but probably not too practical just on cost. The stock crankshaft is pretty strong and might take the added power but your lubrication had better be first-class. The stock pistons and rings may be problematic if you run the engine so the turbo boosts alot, since they're not designed for a turbo. You'd definitely want a seperate small oil reservoir for the turbo that feeds it oil if you shut off the engine right after a fast run - or else just remember to idle the engine for a couple minutes after turbo engagement before shutting the engine off.

Ive decided to go with K1 rods. Ive already bought wiseco pistons and arp head studs. Ive been running this turbo on the stock 2azfe motor for over 2 years now... want a lil more power... power goal is 400whp, nothing too crazy, because is a daily...
