Fuel filter change on camry 07 L4

Hi guys, thanks for your last fast replies to my post on the Blower Motor, a successful fix. My next project is the fuel filter change on camry 2007. My background, I used to own a camry 93 LE (220,000 sold it last year $1,500) which the fuel filter was in the engine compartment after spraying WD40 on top bolt and bottom bolt and waiting for a few minute, i was able to tackle the problem. It seems that this 07 (82,000 miles) fuel filter is in the tank in the back seat which i think was re-engineered for job security for the Toyota dealer mechanics. I don't blame them, but I love working on cars (my gf's camry,). Should I do the job once it hits 100,000? What steps should be very careful not to break parts? How hard or easy is this filter change job? Thank you.

I can't answer your question--sorry, however I am also interested in your question when to replace the fuel filter. IMO it is ridiculous putting the filter in the tank.

So the filer element for the fuel pump is sold seperately? I don't know what the fuel pump assembly sells for, but if I was going to this maintenance, I would seriously consider replacing the complete unit.Looking for more posts for this.Thank you members.

I would recommend replacing just the filter. If you buy whole fuel pump assembly it will cost you $500+ OEM just for the part. If you really want to do this I would recommend doing research yourself because most people on this forum only know how to drop their cars and not much else.

Thank you olympicgold. Does the pump really cost that much? That is about as riduculous as getting $22.00 a gallon for the coolant.

There is no scheduled maintenance for the fuel filter. We have never changed a fuel filter that was in the tank at our dealer because it was clogged. We did change one because of diesel contamination and we have changed a few (very few) fuel pump assemblies. In my opinion, it is a non issue,

Yes. Btw today I received new fuel filter for my Gen 5. Shipping + part was only $25. I will be installing it tomorrow and hopefully it won't take long since it seems to be quite simple from the instructions

Why would engineers put the fuel filter in the tank? knowing that in the USA our gas refiners use so many different blends and we americans drive all over the nation. we need to be able to change that filter more easily and quickly to keep the injection system clean and healthy.
