Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ive been really fustrated lately, ever since i started to drive this car my gas mileage has been really bad. Not really sure why, i got new rims and tires recently but could this cause a huge drop in mpg? I have 17in sport edition rims that weight 22.5lbs each, and michelin primacy mxv4 tires. last two tanks i filled up 13 gallons with a total mileage around 200miles for that whole tank. Toyota wants $107 for diagnosis and then the cost of whatever needs to be repaired or replaced. Everything is checked and is where it should be, engine temp, coolent, tire pressure, all fluids, air filter, spark plugs are all fine, and for the last tank i drove slow, didnt go pass 2500rpms. any help would be great. thanks
when we first got the car we didnt really let it drive muchfor the first 2.5 years, but we would ocassionally turn on the car and let it warm up every week or at the very least turn it on in a two week period, would the engine build up sludge for sitting?
before the camry, we a 1990 honda accord which is still running now, parents though it was gonna last another year at most, so thats why we bought the car just in case the old honda fails but it never did, we drove it occasionaly. since i got my license 2 years ago i started to drive the camry everyday. so should i just take it into the dealer and see whats up?

Dnt be fustrated because i also have the same problem. I got a 08 I4 Camry, and my tank doesnt even make it to 250 miles. But what the service edvicer said to me its the type of gas i am puting. He told me to try Exxon or Mobli but 93 octane. I tryed it and i didnt see NO improvement.
ohh, so pretty much its based on weather? so far temps in the afternoon has been around 40s, and a nights around 35s.
Cold temperatures don't help with gas mileage but the kind of cold that I'm talking about is between -8*C and -20*C (18 to -4*F) with additional windchill values around -25 or -30*C (-13 to -22*F).
Once my car is 3 years old, that's pretty much it. I no longer have any expectations that it will work properly. There's a reason why they only give you a 3 year warranty because they know and have the statistics to prove that $hit starts happening.

Your gas mileage doesn't seem that unusual, especially since it's a bit colder now - and if you did all city driving that would definitely explain it.
Have you kept track of your gas mileage before? It's hard to say how bad it is "now" if you don't know what it was before. I average 18.5 MPG with mostly city driving and as high as 33 MPG all highway driving. Those have always been my averages so I know nothing is wrong.

you guys think, since the car pretty much sat for 2 years, it could of done something? in those first two years we drove it occasionally at the very least drive it once every two weeks and warmed up the car a almost every week, until i started to drive it everyday.
