5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2007 Camry XLE. I have the stock JBL radio with the dual temperature controls. Recently, the radio lights stopped working at night. The blue light that lights up the temperature controls are still working though. I thought it was a blown fuse, but they all seem to be fine. The weird thing is that the light for the radio randomly sometimes starts working again and sometimes it just doesn't work at all. I appreciate all the help guys. Thanks alot.
You could also try the Electrical Diagram manual. On page 177 the Taillight and Illumination section, shows the radio illumination, wired in parallel with the A/T Shift Lever Illumination, the Hazard Warning Switch Illumination, and the A/C Control Switch Illumination. So if you don't see any changes those units that match what the radio is doing, take it to the dealer, the radio is bad. It still could be the aforementioned wire or connector problem in the harness at the radio, but very unlikely.
To further isolate the problem, watch the remote radio controls on the steering wheel, do they flicker or go out with the radio's illumination? If it does, with all others (listed above) being ok, change out the radio. The radio's illumination power source has the problem (green wire), if the remote controls are ok, the white black wire has the problem, as it is what trips the radios illumination to switch from day to night intensity, with the intensity level changes, when in the night mode.

Alright thanks alot man. I think I got it. The radio controls on the steering wheel are ok. So Ill try changing the white black wire then.
The white Black wire is the control wire from the IPC, could be a loose connection (just wiggle it by the wire at the connector), BUT more than likely it's a intermittent connection within the radio. Get the dealer to change it out....

I would love just to have the radio changed out by the dealer, but Im out of warrenty and I dont want to spend alot of money just to fix the light. Everything else still works. haha. I'm trying my best to fix the problem DIY style.

At this point, you have several options:
1) Remove radio, trouble shoot and open radio and more troubleshooting, without any prints... real tough.... get it repaired??????
2) Replace it with one from a junk yard or from someone who has upgraded to a nav radio in this forum or get one from E-Bay, or the dealer.
3)You could upgrade to a nav unit, just search this forum.
I was in that position several times, repair or junk, always went the repair route. Most times with success..... Good Luck, Best Wishes.......
