White DRLs

Hey guys ,

i just got the Halos from ebay about a month ago and I have them wired to my parking lights, so they either come on when the DRL setting is selected (w/ the disgusting yellow halogen DRL on) and/or I have the low-beams on.

What's the point of having halos if they're not on most of the time right rather than just at night when my low beams are on right?

Well, I think I've seen a couple of white DRLs, but I'm not sure how they would do when I turn the high beams on, would they still get brighter?
Or are they white when the high beams are on, and when the DRL setting (which is just high beam in low power right?) it would turn into some .. yellow white color.

Basically I'm trying to find a white DRL that can obviously work as a high beam, I know probably less people care about DRLs than HID low-beams, but if anyone has any pics of white DRLs, or knowledge of them, would you mind helping me out?

Thanks in advance

i believe this has been covered before, the DRL's are your high beams running on a lower wattage or voltage (can't remember which)

So even if you put a "white" bulb in, it'll still look yellowish.

From my understanding anyway.

yea i think i already said this too... only way to get white drls is to run white led bulbs in the high beam and retro a bi-xenon into the low beam so you still have a high beem. another thing i'm thinking that can work is the switchback turns and with a quad retro(as long as it's wired right) then you can have those only on during the day.

If you're looking for a full bright DRL I think you can go with a 12V relay harness to the battery. I haven't done it but I'm thinking that you should be able to get the relay harness with a relay which switches at something less then the low voltage used for the DRLs with not too much problem. (I don't know if it's 6.5 or 7.5v or so used for the DRL's as I'm very new to Toyota). There's probably a zillion of these harnesses (with the specs) on ebay.

wait are you trying to say ... have the DRL's on at 100% voltage? so pretty much drive around with his high beams on? if so, sorry but that was the dumbest response ever ...

We'll what's the OP trying to do then? As you may not be aware, the DRL's go to 0 volts with the LB's on which means they're off. You must be thinking that the high beams by themselves are brighter then the LB's. Yes, the aim is slightly different but this is what those with HID LB's do. Also, if you've got a better suggestion for the guy then the floor is all yours.

I have Super White DRLs. Since its running at low wattage, it will be yellowish. If you want white, High Beams must be on. This is not suggested during driving just to get a white look. Surely, if you run into a wrong cop and you have your high beams on in a well lit street, you'll get a ticket.

idk but i think this might help, look at the input n output. i think this can light the LED in full 14.5v n give the DRL full white, someone should try this

V-LEDS DRL Module
Having issues with your LED or HID conversion on a vehicle with Daytime Running Lights? This is your solution! The easy plug n' play in-line module from V-LEDS. These will provide full power to LED bulbs or HID relay wiring when installing in a low voltage DRL system. Works with all vehicles using 9006 bulb for DRL or when converting to HID using a relay harness.

Not for use with standard bulbs or direct connection to HID ballast.

Measures: 35x35x20 mm
Input Voltage: 3V-14.5V,
Output: 14.5V/500mA

Max Current Draw: 7.2W

Yes, this is the same as I was indicating. I guess that the other posters don't realize that they run w/o the lb's on.

By the looks of it, OP doesnt have LED. So this would be of no use.

This is for LED and those who are putting HIDs. HIDs in high beams is worse than anything you can imagine.

Not for use with standard bulbs or direct connection to HID ballast.

Wow

Thanks for all of the suggestions..

but I think..I'll just leave it as is. But @GT-R, how would I disable the DRLs?
I think I saw a thread on it somewhere and you have to cut wiring or something? Or is it possible to just go to the dealer and have them disable it through the ECU..if that is possible.
