So my camry w/ about 11k miles on it is starting to smell really bad
2009 camry LE 4 cylinder
Let's just say that I took it to a budget autoshop to get my oil changes at 2k, 5.5k, and 10k.
So far I've been using regular chevron gas in it and I use premium about once every 4-6 fillups.
The car's starting to smell really bad and I just don't like the way the engine's sounding. I have a hunch that it's b/c they've been using cheap 5w30 oil in my car. Assuming that this is the problem:
1) Are the oil changes the problem?
2) if so, Where can I buy some oil filters in bulk.
3) Can oil be bought in bulk too? I assumed it gets old or can expire
4) If all i have are autozones, websites, and other common stores like walmart around, what kind of oil should I be buying?
5) Is there anything else I can do?

ugh what exactly is smelling bad? ... i dont get how you are specifically relating a bad smell to the engine oil used ... as long as the oil meets the manufacturers requirements you should be fine ...
it's a 2009 4 cylinder. I noticed that the manual specifies 5w20. it's the exhaust that smells bad and the engine sounds rough/old to me.. though that part could be mental
What you smell is likely the rotten egg smell that comes from every new car with a catalytic converter. It will get better in time. The oil has nothing to do with any smells. If you are using the correct weight of oil, all is well as long as you change every 5k miles or less. The vibration is typical of all 4 cylinder engines and is going to happen for the life of the car. It will be worse during the warmer months when you are using the air conditioner. Perhaps that is what you feel now if the heater is set to defrost.

oh it's not a rotten egg smell. I actually haven't gotten that one.. I also don't gun the engine though. It smells like my 95' accord's exhaust. I was mostly curious if the oil can affect that smell or if it's just the gasoline. Either way the car's exhaust smells very old compared to parents' car
someone told me cheap autoshops use old or bad oil..
If you could point me to a thread where all my questions were answered, that'd be awesome. I've only read that u shouldn't buy FRAM b/c they stink.. nobody's mentioned where to buy OEM except at overpriced dealers from what I read..
it's also not the correct weight.. I noticed that 5w30 is for a v6 not for i4.
I assumed this means that I'll just buy oil from a wal-mart when change-time comes.. but I haven't been able to google where to buy the OEM filters

I highly doubt that it has anything to do with the oil. If it smells like rotten eggs it's the cat converter. If the inside smells like you are sniffing the inside of a sweaty tennis shoe, you have a water leak like around the windshield, if it smells sweet, you have an antifreeze leak.... need a better description.

Take it back to the dealer and have them document the problem. As long as you have receipts from the oil change place Toyota will not deny you warranty coverage. But if the shop screwed up and Toyota found a problem, then you need to take it up with the shop, with documentation from Toyota.
Chances are, the dealer will tell you it's normal.
