Hey Luna, Thanks for responding. Yeah I bought the JBL Nav unit with the JBL amp and the extra antennae that comes with it. My big problem is, the wiring, you are correct. Can't seem to find the right adapters or harness jumpers. Thanks in advance for the diagram. It should be a big help. I am at musicmansell@hotmail.com.

Luna2,
I have problems with my jbl 86280 0w390 amp (2007 Camry SLE - no nav). Last week the left rear speaker blew and I was left with a very hot speaker and hot amp (even with the car turned off). I snipped the wires to the rear speakers (red and yellow). I think the amp froze in an on mode and did not know how to reset it. I now have cool rear speakers and amp, but have lost all audio to the front and am unable to set speaker parameters from the dash. It seems like I have lost all connectivity between the head unit and the amp. I can't locate a replacement for the OEM amp for under $600! Can you recommend a replacement amp or other solutions so my son has his audio back... Thanks very much in advance.

I have not modified my OEM JBL non-nav system, as I am content with it and a separate BIAB nav system. There are other members on this forum with a lot more experience in choosing a replacement amp and speakers. I hope they will chime in and assist you, other than keep watching E-Bay for an amplifier. You will need to find the real problem for the malfunction of the amplifier you described, before installing the replacement amplifier.

So I am installing my navigation system this week and I already have after market amps wired in to my system, so if it ends up where I don't need this JBL amp for connectivity purposes, I would be willing to sell it to you for cheaper than $600 no problem. I will let you know how the install goes, and as soon as I find out if I need the amp or not. Hopefully I can help out a fellow toyota nationer.
Thanks for thinking of me Music Man. I hope everything goes well with your installation. I did receive an email from a parts company on OK that said they have the amp for $225 (this includes shipping), will hold off contacting them and wait to hear how you do. Do you know which fuses could effect my problem of no connectivity between the amp and the dash board receiver? I can select AM,FM1, FM2, the CD player and connect the phone by BT. I cannot adjust any settings for the speakers and there is no audio output - which makes me think my front end is fine and the connection is broken to the amp ...perhaps I only have a bad fuse. Thanks again for thinking of me and good luck on your install.
Thanks very much for your help and information. I hope that my amp just malfunctioned without outside influence. I checked three fuses but am not sure if they were the proper ones to check. Do you know which fuses would be in line with the head unit and the amp? The two under the dash were a bitch to remove and even harder to reinsert. Also, musicmansell has be in contact and helping me with my problem. Thanks again to you for helping me.
As far as your issue goes, I really couldn't say without being there and testing the lines to see at what point in the chain the signal stops.
As far as the amp goes, $225 is a smoking deal shipped to you with a warranty. I would jump on that!
I will still let you know how the install goes and whether or not I have an extra JBL amp sitting here for you afterwards.
I am thinking of changing my 2007 LE Non-SAT head unit. I want to put in a head unit with AM - SAT and I would appreciate it if you could help with some instructions. Contact me at atipin1@gmail.com if you have any guidelines. Thanks.

Hi! Luna2. I have the same system and I need your advice/input. I'm planning to add tweeters to my system because of my dissatisfaction with my highs it produces. Do you think this is possible? If so, can I just tap in or make a splice to the existing speakers wirings? What would be the best location to tap in? Rear deck, front doors or dash? Thanks!

The JBL system has separate wires for the Highs and the Mid-Low range. The highs get absorbed quicker by the soft fabrics of the interior. If you want a more pronounced highs, I would explore a better set of tweeters for the dash first. If it helps, replace the rear ones next.
The JBL amplifier is what controls the audio "shaping" and volume, not the output of the HU. The HU sends the commands to the amplifier and receives a status/feedback from that amplifier.

Thanks, Luna2. I guess will try my first option then go from there. Is the dash tweeter a 2" or 1"?
I did a search and the information I found was 2.6" speakers in the dash.

I already bought these tweeters (JBL GTO 18T 1") before I look here for some DIY to add these on an existing system. I'm glad I followed your advice to replace the existing tweeters first instead of adding it. I replaced the OEM tweeters and installed the new tweeters last night. To my surprise, it was AMAZING!!! It made a big difference. Overall, it really did upgrade the sound quality of my system. I am completely satisfied. I decided to pick these tweeters because of its excellent reviews. They were right! They sound way a lot better than the stock ones. The sound is crisp and crystal clear. The imaging is superb. It really did boost the highs up front. I am happy with the result. Now, I just need to do some tweaking on the balancing, phasing, etc. Following your advice, I didn't have to spend time figuring out where to put the additional tweeters, I didn't have to do some modifications like cutting, and I don't have to tap in on speakers wires. It definitely save me time and money. And you know what, these OEM tweeters were not really quality speakers. I know it's JBL but they really look cheap and light. I'm glad I replaced them with another JBL but with quality. Now, I'm
1.) The factory NAV radio with JBL has an external amplifer located under the front passenger seat to drive the speakers with the proper levels. (The factory JBL NAV radio doesn't have an internal audio power amplifier as in the non-JBL head unit.)
2.) Then there are important wiring differences in the harness connections. (Some while back, I was able to purchase some connectors off flea-bay to connect a aftermarket radio to the existing OEM (matching the connectors on the back of the OEM radio) wiring harness AND a set of connectors (matching the OEM harness connectors) to connect to the OEM radio to any harness using splices. My intent was to see if there was a way to make the OEM radio display a little dimmer at night, (and not cutting the harness wiring) without opening the radio (couldn't do it from the outside of the radio).
3.) The JBL head unit has an auto-diversity receiver. This means that there are two antenna inputs on the back for the AM and FM sections to help stop fading on the FM stations. The standard unit (without JBL) only has one input.
4.) If you can locate a JBL head unit to amplifier unit wiring harness, it will save you a lot of time. (This is if you have the amplifier, too OR a aftermarket amplifier to adapt to, so you can drive the speakers.)
From your question you do not have the pin-outs for both sets of receivers.
Can you PM me with location to send you a diagram? It is a PDF file of about 6 meg.
Luna, I'm at a crossroads here with my 07 Camry XLE. My factory NAV unit sucked until I upgraded to 10.1 OS, which mainly got rid of the "Agree" button and updated the maps. Now about a month ago, the JBL amp went tits-up. I've been scouring the internet for a deal on a used one, but many followers of this forum have stated their discontent about the JBL system as a whole and I've been researching ebay the Eonon and Android direct replacement units as an alternative.
However, referencing the pin outs from above, I can vaguely see that it may be possible to just jumper out all the speaker wires and direct fit a stereo in the dash (some wire modification may be necessary in that area, but as far as the JBL amp goes, doing the wire jumpers should give me direct connection back from unit to speakers.)
I'm a bit confused on how the whole steering wheel controls are wired. Do they go directly to the JBL amp or are they going to the back of the head unit as well?
I think a lot of my questions would be cleared up with that PDF file you mentioned above. If you still have a copy, can you PM me? Thanks!
